far
Well after having the BT guy round he managed to sort out an internet issue. He also took the face plate off the phone socket and plugged in the router direct in the socket that sits behind the faceplate. He called it a 'Raw' connect - speed went up from 2.7mbs to 4+ !!! Well chuffed - thought I would share! Cheers Far

Stonkin
Just checked with someone at work and he has recently bought a type of plate that can be fitted that removes the need to use the adsl filter, which he says CAN slow the connection down. Sounds very similar. Hmm, learnt something today, cheers

Distance from the exchange, all ADSL is advertised as UP TO *mb You must be closeish for only a 2mb loss
PeteA
Its not going to help you make phonecalls though.

How are you connected? Ethernet or wifi? What wireless protocol are you using if so? 802.11a/b/g/n? Anything bar n I'd say you're lucky at getting 14! Anything bar n I'd say you're lucky at getting 14! i have a wireless router for the laptops and the ps3 but the main pc is ethernet. was just wondering as the lines will support up to 20mb using adsl2, but mine will only receive max of 16mb but it sits and downloads real steady at 14mb, or 1.4mb per second if you want to be fussy. hehe Just thought I would ask as im on an un-metered tarrif so I usually take full advantage
Pete
Poor filters are often the cause for poor sync rates. The BT master sockets nowadays all have this removable faceplate, what you're doing is removing the rest of the circuit in the house and connecting direct to the incoming line. far
, what you're doing is removing the rest of the circuit in the house and connecting direct to the incoming line. Yes exactly - seems that disabling the other sockets in the house somehow puts all the 'power' to the main one. I have my phone line connected to the main socket too now
Max Headroom
So let me get this right, if I take of the cover to the master socket and plug a normal line with no asdl filter I will get faster connection.
Pete
So let me get this right, if I take of the cover to the master socket and plug a normal line with no asdl filter I will get faster connection. Maybe. Depends how bad the rest of your house wiring is.
Max Headroom
I have the one socket, the master socket and a line going up to my study and oone for the phone off a double socket thingy which plugs in to the master socket
RedM
I have a filter from ADSLnation plugged into the master socket. I'm doing okay.
Pete
I have the one socket, the master socket and a line going up to my study and oone for the phone off a double socket thingy which plugs in to the master socket It all depends on wiring quality, electrical interference that the wiring may be near, filter quality, etc. Lots of factors. The faceplate removal is only really meant to be a way of testing for internal faults.
roboldham
So let me get this right, if I take of the cover to the master socket and plug a normal line with no asdl filter I will get faster connection. Looking behind my faceplate the socket does not seem to be the standard BT one or the ADSL one - it seems to be a different shape. What have people been plugging into this?
