foodfreak
They are fun.....BUT get yourself some flipin' helmets & body protection[sHOCK][/sHOCK].....you never know when a gust will really do you some damage. I've seen some serious breakage with people not properly protected. btw...I've 9mtr ozone, do not take these kites lightly. regards
caseys
You're welcome to come to Dorset sometime and I'll take you into Sandbanks bay with my 15m (you'll have to wear a windsurf harness). You'll either get air or do a human torpedo impression through the water Land kiting is good as well, the boards are a good laugh. have seen someone though go from the field into someone's car windscreen. Also seen someone else run over a dog Idiots. Get some insurance if you're going to do it regularly. 3rd party at least and that doesn't cost too much. Also if your grip strength is sufficient and upper body strength is ok I'd go for two handles, 4-line setup. 2-line on a bar is a bit lame, 4-line on a bar is OK but harness is then required... JustGav
With the summer here...I keep looking for some nice wind to take mine out, they are standard equip in my mr2 Agree with FF as before, that some level of protection is required....these things can REALLY hurt you, I've buzzed the top 20ft trees in the past before meeting the tarmac with a thud. HOWEVER they are really good fun and we need to organize a kite day for definite

Nicolai, you are better off getting a 2nd hand decent kite, rather than a cheapy one. Some like a Beemer or an O-zone. They will fly and react so much better. They aren't expensive either if you look around. I got a 15m inflatable with harness, and kite bag for £120. EDIT : 3m can be great fun, don't assume the size is an indication of fun factor. I have a 2.5m, 6m, 10m and 15m, but they are for different conditions. In fact I've not flown the 15m yet purely because of the risk on land. (they will be used at sea, as i live near the beach)
leelbuk
Nice to find some more people on the forum playing with these! I bought a Flexifoil Blade IV 4.9 last year with some uprated lines, and that thing bites! Anything around 15mph wind is great for traction, gets you in the air plenty. 20Mph and I have found myself a couple of storeys high in the air - suffice it to say I am not thinking of using it in any stronger winds at my experience level. My work mates found my kiting escapades very amusing with an animated gif eventually circulating the office: I was a beginner then and have bought protection since! I would suggest at least buy some kite killers so that if you get into trouble you can just let go of the kite and it will be killed without dragging you across a road or through barbed wire or something. They're only about a tenner from eBay and could save your life. Of course once you are in the air, you really need armour! Stay safe and if you have a kiting day I'll defo come along! Its a kite Naish aero 12 m2. OR a Naish Aero2 8m2. So its a big one Im also going to buy a trapeze so that i can use my whole body. Ontopic: You seem to have some strong winds going on there What were they trying? Cheers
foodfreak
also get a cheap windspeed meter....20mph winds & big kites take a lot of work (plus usually a facefull of dirt)

SteamAhead
Glad I've seen this thread, makes me want to go out and do some kiting now (that would be interesting in the dark I've not done any flying for a good year or so, I might have a go this weekend "weather permitting" cheers!. One thing I would say, if you want to use a board; MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THE KITE FIRST!! Flying one of these things is dangerous enough on there own, let alone putting wheels on ya feet....... man who knows Best practice you can have is on a sandy beach. Once you get the hang of the kite try scudding on the sand http://www.surf-wax.co.uk/sports/power_kites/scudding.htm always puts a smile on my face Happy kiting and love the vids, bring on the sun and the wind Jim
