How do I know if I have FCD?

The reason I ask is I have just been reading some posts on FCD.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, Fuel cut comes in at 14psi and a full decat should raise the psi above 14?

I have full decat and do not suffer fuel cut, I am a little concerned that I may not have a FCD and might be damaging the turbos. But because I don't hit fuel cut it suggests I have FCD.

Does that make sense? :)

What would I need to look for in the engine bay?

Andrew,

As you have a J-Spec, full de-cat and an aftermarket back box you will be hitting fuel cut without a FCD. You should be getting around 18psi and as you rightly say, fuel cut is at 14-15. You must have a FCD.

I've never had it myself, but you definately be aware if you are hitting fuel cut, probably a huge jolt through the car as the power is cut - someone on the on this BBS likened it to hitting a wall!

Not entirely sure about this, but I think the FCD is hooked into the ECU, which is under the passenger seat(?).

Have a look at this page -

I'm currently getting my car de-catted, and even with the stock back box I may occasionally hit fuel cut on cold days.

Hope this was of some use,

Tom.

You might not be hitting the fuel cut threshold with a stock exhaust. The only way to confirm what boost level you are running is to fit a boost gauge.

Sorry Gavin I forgot to mention I have a Trial exhaust system. Could it be that kind of exhaust, that doesn't produce high boost?

Another thing I forgot to mention was that I hit fuel cut when I first bought the car and was running it on standard fuels, then switched to Optimax and the problem went away. I assumed that was the problem, I could be wrong though, but it has never happened since.

Can an FCD be set to still give fuel cut? But at higher psi levels?

Guess I'll just have to search for evidence on the car of an FCD being fitted.

As you mention Tom, hitting fuel cut is like hitting a brick wall....not nice :)

And thanks for the link mate, very helpful.
