martin1982
Had the alarm installed by caralarmuk about 2 months ago. Got in thesupra today, turned the igniton to "on" to allow the fuel pump to prime, then switched to start and nothing. Eveything died, alarm, door lights the lot. Opened the bonnet removed the 60amp Power fuse, plugged it back in and the alarm starts to go off. So I use the fob to turn the alarm off, start the car as normal (waiting for fuel pump to prime first) with no problems, turn the car off and start it again, still no problems then drive off. 5 hours later... Use the keyfob to open the car and turn off the alarm, turn the key to on etc then turn it some more to start and everything dies again. Remove the power fuse, plug it back in and nothing. Disconnect the battery, reconnect, nothing.... Let the gf out of the car, shut the passenger door, lock the car with the key and bingo the led in the dash starts flashing again and the alarm goes off. So I unlock the car go to start it and it starts... Anybody know what is going on? I've checked the fuses (all ok), the battery is fine and I have no idea whats causing this. I'm obviously gonna give caralarmuk a ring but wondered if anyone on here had any ideas as to what could be wrong. I have a horrible feeling it may be something to do with the Supra's wiring as the old lazerline alarm stopped working completely overnight (made no noise when it was set off, both key fobs stopped working as did the remote central locking and the only way to disable the alarm/immobiliser was to use the alarm key socket in the dash). Matt Harwood
Without checking the car over it's very difficult to say what the problem is. What I can say, is that it won't be the alarm. The alarm doesn't have the ability to turn off the interior lights and totally kill the car. You're losing a main power supply somewhere... absz
have you checked the battery terminals to make sure they are tight ?
SteveC
Do you know if the car has also got a Clifford wireless immobiliser installed by any chance? If it has, then depending on where it was spliced in, it could possibly cause the symptoms you describe if the transmitter and receiver aren't working (or communicating) correctly. martin1982
I’ve checked the terminals, they seem fine. Matt – Had a chat with the installation engineer and he pretty much supported what you said, although he will come and take a look at it, he thinks it may be an earthing problem. I’m not sure if it has the wireless immobiliser, I’ve got the intellistart function so the factory immobiliser is bypassed (not sure if that info is of any use). Gonna have a good snoop around after work to see if I can spot any loose connections, then just wait for the engineer to come out and see what he says, even if its not the alarm he said he’d try and point me in the right direction of what’s causing this. Then just got to figure out how to fix it or where to take it to be fixed! Car electrics is all a bit black magic to me lol
Matt Harwood
There is no factory immobiliser on a Supra, so nothing has been bypassed there. There are a lot of plugs down in the drivers footwell. Some of these could easily be disturbed whilst installing an alarm. It is possible that you have a plug that is maybe just connecting... Make sure the battery terminals are good, and that all fuses are securely in place
martin1982
Thanks Matt, I'll check this evening. If not looks like I'll have to take the car to Toyota an get them to run some checks!
MarkR
You'll know for sure if it was the alarm by checking the alarm codes flashing on the LED in the car. Matt will be able to help you with this as he helped me in the past.
martin1982
Yeah the engineer said to do that next time it died, which I did. No responce from the alarm tho. Looks like its def gonna be a general electrical fault, something loose somewhere etc..
martin1982
OK checked all the wires I could see and the fuses (bit of a mess down in the footwell wiring wise), battery connections are secure, negative lead looks a little frayed round the connection point but nothing major. What was worrying was when I was letting the Supra cool down on idle it just switched itself off. Obviously it lost all electrical power but just for a split second as the radio had not re-set itself! There's obviously something loose somewhere but I can't find it!
