michael
Can anyone point me to some good links for reading up on NA engines, mainly along the lines of US type stuff that gets used in kit cars and hot rods etc I'm really looking for a bit of history on the variants available, tuning options, specs, dimensions... I realise this is a bit vague but until I see some info I don't have a clue what I'm asking

Pete
You want to buy some books. Try http://www.veloce.co.uk/shop/products/productList.php?prod_group=Performance%20Tuning%20&%20Modification& I got two of these for tuning carbs and my Pinto engine in the kit - learnt and awful lot! michael
Basically I'm looking into a fairly high powered NA engine that has to fit in a fairly small space - I'm just not sure if a 400rwhp lump is likely to be possible given the space restrictions. So I want to have a read and see what's available, V8, V6, straight 6 and so on.... Thanks for the links, I'll plough through them and see where I end up

Gazboy
Corvette LSX engines are tiny for the capacity- I don't know the dimensions, but they look a lot smaller than our straight 6's. Cheap to tune too.
