Hi everyone,

I need help! i have a TT Jap import Auto, and i have a core plug with a hole in it :(

its located under the turbos and is the closest one to the bulkhead, how dificult is this to change and can anyone tell me what to expect? i have experience on working on cars (stripping engines, and putting back together etc) and so im going to attempt to fix this myself... though if anyone can give me some tips, or hints on any problems im likely to encounter that would be great! :search:

also how hard are the core plugs to fit? and where can i get them from??

i hope someone can help me with this!

thanks in advance, Steve.

member "Bens747" did one or more on his NA (but he's not on here alot).......i would get one from a toyota dealer.........i think you just have to get a drift to tap it in flush......maybe with some sealant....access will be your biggest problem i think.

Not sure of the height of the core plugs in relation to all the turbo stuff but hopefully they are lower than most of it so you only have to remove the cats?

not sure what to remove on the location of it on a supra. but in general, changing a core plug can be tricky. easyest way i find is to use a small but strong and sharp headed screwdriver and keep tapping it in but in towards the centre aswell (to stop damaging the head/block. once you have been patient lol and got through you can carefully prise it out. be patient they can take a while, and be very very carefull not to damage the engine. always best to get a garage to do it if your not confident. once its out clean up the area with a little emery cloth and make sure there is nothing left in the chamber. i normally leave the coolant all in so it helps put pressure behind the plug. i use a socket on a small extention, the exact size of the core plug inside and tap it in will a little white grease. carefull again, dont deform the plug, if you deform it even slightly then youll have to start again. once nearly in all the way use a bigger socket and flush it in.

Yeps I did two of them and as said it's access to the core plug itself. If you can get clear access then they are very easy to do. They are not recessed as peeps might think so using a blunt tool like a short rod like a drill bit but not. Tap one side of the core plug slowly and it should twist in it's housing. Once removed use a gasket sealant and spread around the new core plug. Using an appropiate sized socket that is the same size as the rim of the new core plug. Very slowly and lightly tap the core plug into it's housing until flush with the enging housing. Do not use a tool and tap in the base of the core plug as you might distort it or put a hole in it. Good Luck ..... :)
