guye_d
I have a 2jz-gte vvt-i and would like to install an AFPR; Does anyone know of a good kit with stainless feed line, high quality/temp return line, fittings and adaptors? If not, can anyone detail the bits I would need? Thanks
Jake
I have a 2jz-gte vvt-i and would like to install an AFPRWhy do you want to do that? Is something wrong with the stock fuel pressure?
guye_d
going single mate .... Precision T61 with Sard 650cc injectors for fueling, controlled by an emanage ultimate
Jake
Nice, but still, do you need non-standard fuel pressure? To me, it's just an added complication and expense you don't really need. Weldon or Aeromotive FPRs are well regarded. Maybe look on PHR or MVP's web sites to see what's in their fuelling kits? Are you using Side Feed injectors? Stock fuel rail? guye_d
If your saying its not necessary then you have just made my day, in doing research, I found that there are mixed responses regarding whether its necessary or not. I've searched far and wide and either find the FPR only or fuel kits which include a rail etc.; but nothing which adapts to the stock rail, the closest I have found is http://store.driftmotion.com/static/i-afprkit1jz.php - for the 1jz Yeah, side feed, high impedance for the stock rail
SimonB
It's necessary if you want to increase the stock fuel pressure if you are trying to squeeze more from smaller injectors, or if you replace the fuel rail, in which case you obviously need one as the stock one would go as well. With a T61 and 650ccc injectors you should be fine.
Jake
I've just done a quick search for you mate, as I was pretty sure it's been asked before. See this thread. ... http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=119200&highlight=fuel+pressure+regulator and especially post #15 by Chris Wilson. Any other details on your project, Guye? We like a good VVTi single! Is it a 6sp? Which manifold are you going to use?
guye_d
Thanks Jake and Simon. Pretty happy that that's one less thing i have to worry about purchasing Yep, its 6sp, not sure how long the TRD single plate in there is gonna hold up though. Any thoughts on a viable clutch? Here's What I have purchased thus far: - Precision T61 with oil lines - Boost logic 4" intake - Arnout Manifold - Tial 44mm external WG with .9 bar spring - Sard 650 cc drop in injectors - E-manage ultimate with vehicle specific harness and injector adaptor Doing an engine refresh at the same time; so: - Toyota genuine gasket kit - Toyota Oil Pump and Water pump - Toyota timing belt - Power Enterprise drive belt - Autobahn silicone top and bottom radiator hoses What I haven't figured out yet is whether i should keep the MAF and if so; how. or whether I should convert to MAP. I think I got everything covered Edited April 4, 2009 by guye_d (see edit history)
foodfreak
RPS max street with the stock centre plate will do the job with the stock flywheel, usually lasts me around 12-14k miles.......& i'm no miss daisy:D
MarkR
and yup, no FPR required ...... yet
guye_d
Thanks mates. Certainly good to have the fact that I have no need for an FPR confirmed by so many knowledgeable folks. The RPS Max is actually exactly what I have been looking at as my bank account needs to recover before I go after an OS Giken twin plate. What did you guys do about the MAF though? Seeing that you both have vvt-i singles, I am pretty interested in the approach taken. Jake
Arnout Manifold Good choice. The RPS Max is actually exactly what I have been looking at as my bank account needs to recover before I go after an OS Giken twin plate. What did you guys do about the MAF though? Seeing that you both have vvt-i singles, I am pretty interested in the approach taken. On mine (y2k VVTi 6sp, PHR1/GT4088) I had the OSG twin plate but I never liked the feel of it much. Mine was sans-MAF after the Motec was fitted.
foodfreak
as you're going single you'll be changing the ecu, the best ecu at the moment is the solaris if you want to keep the drive by wire throttle, not sure if this unit keeps the knock control...ask Ryan ( at the time I changed, the F-con was the only unit that was virtually plug & play, & kept dbw with the knock control)
Guest drlee
as to clutch,i use hks gd pro twin plate, bit of a bitch round town,or if u get rushed, but its spot on,i broke my original flywheel showing off,as u do!

MarkR
I looked at ECU's for about a year before picking the Solaris. Best choice in my opinion.
Wez
the best ecu at the moment is the solaris if you want to keep the drive by wire throttle, not sure if this unit keeps the knock control...ask Ryan Solaris does do knock control
guye_d
I looked at ECU's for about a year before picking the Solaris. Best choice in my opinion. Lots of people are recommending this actually, will look at it. The least that can come out of it is that I will be one ounce smarter
MarkR
Yup, do the research, but the level of control the Solaris gives you appears to be far superior to any other ECU on the market at the moment for a very competitive price. MOTEC is great but very expensive if you unlock all the bells and whistles. HKS Fcon V-Pro isn't bad, but isn't a complete replacement ECU. It's very good if you can get someone to map it but few people map them, and it's not cheap to map. Foodfreak has one with good results. Speak to RyanG our resident mapping guru. He's mapped most ECU's available (from what I've read) and he recommends the Solaris.
