Supra-Brett
I didnt think the NA engine was non interference? Is the N/A non interference ? I thought the N/A and TT were "almost" identical with the exception of turbos, headgasket etc. ? If the cambelt goes on a TT and it doent cause any damage, whats all the massive fuss about, when people rush around madley to get the cambelt changed so regularly ? Krister
N/A and TT are both non-interference.

jaymdee
Pechey, have you seen this garage actually replacing the engine? Is it possible they're fobbed you off saying "it needs a new engine" and then simply changed the cambelt and got it working properly? What's happened to your old engine, as it's possibly OK and you could sell it to someone who's looking for a NA/TT conversion. Subject to it being checked out of course
SUPRALOOPY
Ask for your old engine back as you have sold it !
SMiFFAD
In my younger days i got my timing 180 degrees out on my mr2 (also non interference) it simply wouldnt start, but correcting the belt fired her into life, no damge at all. I think youd have to be running at redline and the belt to snap to come anywhere near the valves being damaged - it sounds like some dodgy garage is pulling your leg so hard its going to pop off - name and shame!! However, sounds like your car has a nice fresh engine in it, so enjoy a free bump and good luck with the sale of what should be a very nice car for someone

fizzle
who has the engine that you removed? (probably sat in garage owners n/a now)
Pixelfill
Could it be that the old engine had 265 cams on, that would make it an interference engine wouldn't it. Either way you need to get your old engine back, sounds very fishy to me. Mike
Guest pecheythefrench
what it is, is that my car went to a mate that is a mech but he screwed the job up so i went to a mot garage to get it checked out they said that the reason for the no start is cos the valves are bent and possibly the pistons so i wanted to just puut another engine in it which mr engine ltd did who are based in barking essex and are very good guys so i cant really get the engine bk
