Guest argy911
Thinking of buying one as a project car but not sure how often you need to overhall engine, any advice ?
miko_supra
I'm buying one of these soon as my new project. Rebuild is needed every 60kish, costs around £2500 parts and labour, or £500 to £1000 just on parts depending on how much you are replacing. It starts getting really expensive if the rotor housings are fooked which will set you back £1500. Street porting is a good thing to do if your looking for future power gains too when rebuilding. When looking to buy one just make sure you check how the engine runs hot/cold/throughout the rev range. I test drove one last week and it was hesitant at around 3000rpm, apparently this is due to a grounding issue which is a nightmare to try and resolve. Text speak irks people, especially in "Tech" just learn to type faster. You'll appreciate it.

Peter P
Wont a 2jz completely screw up the rx7's handling characteristics which is as you said you self its biggest selling factor Apparently not! The company in the US (Tech2) do a conversion kit that sits the engine in as far back and low as possible. It works out to a gain of around 60KG(before I'm flamed that's what I recall although it is late and I will check and re-post if wrong!). With mine, I'm going 1JZ (lighter and not as tall so hoping to avoid the pricey bonnet) and being a dedicated track car, it's going on a diet so should be able to get the weight down enough that the engine change won't be an issue. Good to see there are a few of us doing these as should be interesting when they're done! Pete
