VVT-i automatic to manual conversion: ECUs

Hello guys,

I have an automatic Jspec 98 VVTi TT Supra which I am preparing as a drift/track car. I have all the mechanical ancillaries, such as the V160 gearbox, the manual gear tunnel cover, clutch assembly, etc. However, I only have the automatic ECU and engine harness.

Will this ECU and harness work when the car is mechanically converted to a Manual?

The reason I am asking is that I know of a manual converted Majesta which "let off the throttle" when you were approaching the redline (where the automatic managament would prepare for an upshift). This is obviously not acceptable as this will be a race/track car.

Cheers

Wouldnt a replacement ECU be the best idea on modified track motor?

Yes, it would, but a stock VVTi setup is sufficient for now if we can get it to run.

We will opt for a standalone later when our engine tuner has finished the tune of another VVTi Supra he is working on. There is very limited knowledge on VVTi specific tuning in Norway as there are few such cars over here.

Do you or any other of you guys know whether a manual VVTi ECU plug directly into the automatic VVTi engine harness? (In other words, are the engine harnesses for both manual and automatic VVTi 2JZ-GTEs identical?)

I can probably get hold of a Manual VVTi ECU but i think the engine/front light harness is harder to come by.
