csa
well no sooner than the first problem is solved , another appears. I need to fire up the engine for the first time, but I'm not getting any iginiton (I'm quite sure). Theres a TOAD alarm in the car and I've disabled it as usual on the remote, and the engine does crank then (it wont when its enabled) I've been advised to remove the battery over night and connect the poles simultaniously tomorrow to "kick start" the alarm, and will try that. Wireing wise theres something that puzzels me. In the passenger footwell where the AEM box sits, there's a large yellow plug that I can't connect to any thing. The plug sits on the harness is about 30cm from the plugs that go into the ecu and it looks like this: http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4691/img9169.jpg what is that for? and does anyone have any ideas to a solution? tooquicktostop
Not the reason for your issue I am sure but.... Some of those AEM wires and connectors look like mine used to, bullet connectors and tape, I had mine rewired as it was causing a few issues Edited March 31, 2009 by tooquicktostop (see edit history)

I think the yellow plug in question was originally plugged into the trac control ecu.

Paul Whiffin
Have you checked to see if your getting a spark at the plugs?
csa
Have you checked to see if your getting a spark at the plugs? not yet, but theres no fuel getting in eighter (pulled a plug and it was bone dry and non smelly) and it's my understanding that fuel will stay out as long as theres no spark ...right or wrong? Doesn't sound right to me. First thing I'd check is to see if your getting fuel. Have you got a regulator with a fuel pressure gauge on the car? csa
yes and the gauge is at little under 4 bar, so fuel is good i presume

Check to see if your plugs are sparking I would.

Chris Wilson
Is the crank position sensor connected??
csa
I'm 99% sure that everything is connected as I've gone through it a million times now...but where is that sensor located?
Paul Whiffin
The connection is down by the alternator, the sensor itself bolts to the oil pump.
Krister
I had the same problem after my timing belt change. It was the crank position sensor that was unplugged, it's in a difficult place to see if you dont know what to look for. I'd check that first. Luka-P
Check one of the plugs near your ecu. It has a lever which locks it in place, just on the right wall of the footwell. This was my problem when I couldn't get it started. IIRC it's orange.

Must be very sensitive as it only needed 1-2mm to be completely pushed in.

I hand't clamped it in, there's a lever that does so.
