Steam!?

...

Steam pours out of the radiator over flow bottle when idling... Just had to replace the water pump as the gasket was almost non exsistant. Have a new radiator in it...

Any ideas?

There is no viscous fan attached at the moment, so without that air being pushed through the radiator, could that be the reasons why the water is over heating?

(FYI, its parked up... im not driving her :)

Thats what I thought... but would it really cool it enough to stop it from boiling up?

Which? The fan or the air flow during driving? The answer is quite a lot actually... The radiator relies on getting rid of the heat into the air, if there is no air flowing, it will simply heat up and saturate the immediate area and subsequently the water leaving the rad will be warmer, and it simply gets worse.

Did the new rad come with a new rad cap

Yeah one did... but Im using the old rad cap cause its better looking... maybe a mistake? .... Surley the rad cap is working correctly though because the steam is escaping?

Stick to the standard toyota one or fit some electric ones if need be....

No, the cap may not be sealing so it could be preventing the pressure building in the system and this the water boils at a lower temp and hey presto you have steam

get a stock fan, may not look great but does the job 100%, Jezz or Keron will have them
