hogmaw
I was reading this and apparently the NHS recommends eating bananas for getting some shut eye. Personally I can't comprehend life without a MINIMUM of 8 hours kip. Being able to go to work whenever I like helps with that, and is one of the main reasons I started my own company. Early morning starts at 6am? No thanks!

Scott
Backshift around 10 hours, early shift around 6. I'm pretty much the same as yourself, 8 hours to get by. 10 hours is perfect for me though. Sometimes i sleep longer on backshift, because i can, but i don't think i get much of a benefit.
RobSheffield
Between 6 and 8 hours. I tend to find that more than 8 hours just makes me feel odd. I work varying hours each day which can become a bit much after a while.
Ian W
generally about 6-7 hours. I function way better if I manage to get 8+ hours though.

Carl_S
Would like to see where the NHS recommends banana eating as a way to getting to sleep. Seems a bit random. Perhaps they meant sucking bananas? For me it is varies, and I always try and get about 7 hours in 24 hours, even if it means 2 sleeps per day. Sleeping during the day I find has a deleterious effect on me. I work shifts and sometimes rise at 4am after a 2am bedtime. Self employment would be too much sleep freedom at the moment Hog, even though I envy your status. But sleep, so long as it is at night time, is one of the days great pleasures. Dreams can be a blast too - two headed penguins and kinky women and all that. Scott
Something i have found from working shifts. Sleeping 8 hours during the night is the equivilant to around 10-12 hrs during the day. For some reason, most likely your body clock, you don't get the same sleep during the day as you do at night. I always found when working nightshift that i would require to sleep longer just to be ok. I'm one of the lucky people that CAN sleep during the day though. My wife used to have to get me up to get ready for work lol.

hoff
Between 6 and 8 hours. I tend to find that more than 8 hours just makes me feel odd. QUOTE] I usually get about that and totally agree with feeling odd after 8 hours or so. It usually makes me feel hungover, very tired all day and I get a headache after about an hour of waking:blink: I do find that with 3 or 4 hours sleep I do feel far more awake when I do wake up but obviously start to flag after tea.
