Vegas holiday ideas

Off to Vegas at the end of next month for a week... main reason for going is that I have tickets for the Hatton vs Pacquiao fight, so thats one day catered for. Staying in the MGM Grand so should be nice.

I've never been before, so am looking at ideas for things to do in Vegas and around the area that people would recommend doing.

I was thinking about a Grand Canyon visit, but apart from Casinos and whores, what else in Vegas is there to see? :)

If you're there on a Monday night then check out Godspeed which is in the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay - it's only open to the public on Monday nights - it's pretty much got one of the best views in the whole of Las Vegas!

Also check out Voodoo Lounge at the Rio - again it's an awesome view, that's best at a weekend though otherwise it's pretty quiet!

If you want to do a lot of bars or clubs then look into buying a Vegas Passport - it will get you access into many places with queuejump which is a big thing out there!

you wont be struggling for things to do in Vegas to be honest. You could quite happily spend a couple of weeks there. I saw lance burton the magican. Was was quite good if its your kind of thing.

I would also try and see blue man group. not sure which casino they are at but they are very good indeed. Get a seat as close to the front as you can :D

Wow, lots of varied answers, cheers for the replies :)

I'm sure I wont be bored, just wondered what there is to do there. (other than gamble and get laid) .. and yes I am taking the GF too :)

James - yes only for a week, mainly for the fight, it was a bit of a spontaneous decision tbh! Want to have a longer holiday later in the year, somewhere in Europe hopefully.

Guigsy - yeah, I guess I'll have to see what other shows are on that week.

Alanm - yes I have heard about that, I think there are now 3 different rides on the top of that building. I've been on the 420ft Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar point, so Im sure the height wont scare me on that one ;)

Aido, thanks for the details, they have the same sort of pass in NY, I know what you mean there.

Bigcol - lol just watched that vid, he looks nuts :D

Ian - sounds fun, got any more info? Do they let you play with the automatics? ;)

I would definitley get across to the canyon. Rent a nice car and do the drive (about 260 miles)

Stay the night at one of the local hotels and catch the canyon at sunset and sunrise. If you do drive let me know there is a little known spot at the canyon which is very quiet with great views (if you don't mind a 10 min walk)

Definatly hire a car if your going to the dam/canyon. A mid sized car for the day inc petrol will cost you no more than about $120, and theres a desert road about 15 miles long that leads to the canyon so get something rear wheel drive for some drift practice (you wont regret it!!) If your looking to do some cheap gambling its a struggle to find anything less than $10 tables near the main part of the strip (mgm, luxor, new york new york etc...) so go up to the top eg: circus circus and you can find them as little as $3.

Taxis are stupidly expensive (drivers dont know where they are going either as they literally come from all over the country for a short period just to make some easy dosh!) Theres a bus service called dues which runs up and down the strip and is something like $10 for the day or use the monorail which is also fast and cheap.

Do the rides on the top of the stratosphere! Aswell as the newyork newyork rollercoaster. Don't bother with the rides in circus circus as unless your 12 you wont enjoy them.

Going out at night the best place is the palms, which is off the strip and has 5 very good clubs in it, or if you cant be arsed going that far try out Rok in new york. Just dont bother with LAX in the luxor as its cramped and full of fat mexican girls.

Drinking is very expensive, unless your gambling(which means all drinks free) Best place i found is to go hooters which do pitchers of beer for $10. Otherwise expect to pay around that for just one bottle.

I would pick up a guide book mate, there is so much to see from having a ride in a gondolier through Venice to getting plastered in a club while looking at the topless asian girl in the glass table in front of you. I was out there two weeks ago and I stayed at the MGM in a grand tower room and it was very good. I would have loved to have seen a Boxing fight there that will be brilliant.

If it hasn't already been mentioned there is also a Monorail which is about $13 a day which is very hand for getting up and down the strip as walking it will literally destroy your feet.

Eating and drinking is currently pretty expensive out there due to the exchange rate so be prepared. Prices range greatly and there are plenty of discount booklets and leaflets about to get you "buy 1 get 1 free drinks" and free entry to clubs etc... Also if you are looking into going to see some shows or visiting some attractions there are discount ticket offices along the strip (one inside the M&M factory next to the MGM) which can save you up to 50% on the box office prices. Once you have bought these ticket vouchers you must claim your ticket and seat allocation at the box office before you go to see the show.

Hope that helps and have a fantastic time (I am sure you will)

BTW who are you flying with..?

Yeah, well like I am mainly going for the boxing and to experience that pre-fight build up etc.

I'm sure it'll be a good experience, we can always go back if we cant fit everything in :) Cheers for the tips.

We're flying with American.
