Going half way up the country to see a single turbo rx7. I've never driven one, or been in one so it should be interesting. The guy says it's running at about 400hp so it should be a bit more of a beast than the old bpu. Anyone owned one of these who has some buying tips?

Amazing drivers cars, very well balanced, nimble and awesome feedback through the steering wheel, loved every minute of driving one :) top that off with great looks/power too :)

buy it, blow it up, 1JZ it :)

RX7 = Loud, the noise although awesome will get on your nerves at times.

Be wary lowered rx7s are very hard to get around cities (speedhumps) due to long wheel base.

Petrol consumption is one of the worse cars I have ever seen.

Servicing and running costs are very high for a sub 8k car.

Early models also suffer from v.questionable build quality - door handles and interior plastics often break with time

Stock sound system is terrible

If you can handle all the above, its a phenomenal machine - and you'll get way more attention than you can dream of ;)

Check the mazdarotary club for hints.

Check exhaust for white smoke/steam (bad)

Check oil to see if its recently been changed (if not, bad).

Check car boosts correctly

If car has powerfc check it for knocks after the ride.

Ask owner to try and fire it up from cold (ask him not to start it before you get there - you will know as rx7 engines get v.v.hot under the hood)

Ask owner to try and fire it up from warm after a run (if it doesn't start, problems may be there).

It is quite normal for rx7s not to fire immediately on turning the key the first turn or so, but if its clicking over and not starting there is a problem.

Sure someone from mazda rotary club can help you.
