Removing Locking Nuts

How hard is it to get locking nuts off when you don't have the key?

I can't for the life of me find the socket and i'm a bit worried about punctures etc. I was just going to buy another set of locking nuts but wasn't sure how to go about getting the old ones off.

a long time with a dremel

how much of the nut protrudes from the wheel?

None mate, its under flush lol. I was thinking about using a dremmel to grind a slot into the top of them for a screwdriver?

Fun fun fun

Last time i had a set stuck on i got a mate to weld a small nut on from the inside hole and simply undid them.

Thats the way i normally do them unless you have cheap locking nuts which a impact socket can be hammered on .

PS as a joke a mentioned to a freind that the only way it can be done was by using a hole cutter and cutting the alloy wheel off which he DID:taped:

homebase used to sell a socket called a gatorgrip which is like a socket with loads of pins in it and is supposed to fit all nut sizes but it turned out the were really good for getting locking wheel nuts off

this only works on cheap locking nuts, the good ones have a outer casing that spins so even if you get grip it does not turn the inner part of the nut.
