shaunmcintyre
:Pling:hello am currently trying to purchase a six speed getrag for my toyta aristo, whats the difference between a v161 and a v160? i think i have maged to source a box only, when converting auto to manual can i use the clutch servo? and clutch pedal from a five speed manual, to make sure i have the corrct box, what codes should be on it? did they do a non turbo 6 speed box
Homer
I believe the only difference on the v161 is the closer ratio gears (waits to be corrected!) The clutch pedal, and clutch master cylinder are the same between the 5spd and 6spd, not 100% on the slave, but they *looked* the same. Be aware that the prop shaft on the 6spd is different so not sure what combo you'd need to use to get it to connect to the smaller diff casing. Might just need the first section of the 6spd prop. Homer
imi - final drive refers to the diff essentially, thats the same with the v160 and v161, but the box ratios are definetely different (v161b being closer ratio and lower speed in each gear) You'll need a lot more than just the box to do the conversion. Have you looked at the conversion giude here?: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/auto_to_6spd_swap/index.html Where abouts in the south are you? Speak to Ryan.G for the mapping

AFR in Crawley could be an option for you, I think they're the closest that specialise in Supra's have have done a few of these conversions recently. PM Muffleman or dude on here and I've sure they'll quote you happy
PJ
Have a read of this thread which is detailing the process on my Aristo http://clubaristo.net/forums/showthread.php?t=17334 I'll see if I can dig out the parts list that I ordered up for mine; We used a clutch pedal, brake pedal, clutch master cylinder, and any associated bits, from a MK3 supra. MKIV Supra handbrake, 6 Speed Clutch & Flywheel. Edited March 25, 2009 by PJ (see edit history)

Homer
pretty sure the v161 will give you higher speed in the gears;) Edited, cos I didn't fully explain, the final gear is higher, but not all. Looking at it further, 1st, 2nd and 5th are pretty much the same, 3rd and 4th are much taller, 6th is shorter on the v161. The speeds are stated in great detail here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=29830 To break it down: v161 vs v160 1st = 42mph vs 41mph 2nd = 69mph vs 66mph 3rd = 101mph vs 93mph 4th = 129mph vs 119mph 5th = 156mph vs 156mph 6th = 191mph vs 197mph Assuming you use the jap 6spd diff of course, otherwise the speeds in gear will be shorter with the jspec auto diff. gaz1
Nah Gaz, speeds are lower in each gear as the ratio is higher. The speeds are stated in great detail here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=29830 doh must have read that wrong:D

I ran the T04R single at 1.5 bar on the auto box with AEM for several months, the gear change was ok, a little less smooth perhaps, but a single is not exactly a smooth thing any way on boost, it killed the torque converter in the end
