Toms Supra
Removed the bonnet sound deadning today, I did this to help air flow around the engine it helps alot, I did it on my old 306 GTI6 as well and it make a big difference in temps. However the biggest gain is noise!! Wow you can REALLY hear the turbos now it sounds like a jet and the bov is as loud as fook! the moral of this story? If you want to aid air flow around the engine for the summer and want loud turbos and tishhh`s remove the sound deadning!!
Clarkey
You know the soundproofing is also a fire-blanket as well ?
b_have
Also a fire blanket ! and there's me thinking of adding another to quieten mine down
Toms Supra
lol yes i know! but its a low chance of it catching fire so Ill gamble on leaving it off, I cant see it doing much in a fire!! the noise is worth it! And what about people with aftermarket bonnet`s they havent got them!!
b_have
Yup, I have an Abflug bonnet without soundproofing. I did however make a reflective heat shield above the turbo as it does get pretty hot in that area even with double turbo/manifold lagging! hadyn
i've removed sound proofing on my old cars and was thinking of doing it to my supra, what about the paint under and possibly on the bonnet itself?? Does it take to the heat ok?
Toms Supra
Unless you drive your car hard enough to get your turbos glowing it should be fine, even though the bonnets are plastic! Should be fine!!
hadyn
plastic bonnets???? dont fancy exposing em to that much heat!! how do you get the proofing off?
Toms Supra
Yeah the bonnets are plastic! that why they are so light, tap it etc you`ll see! To remove, first remove the piece of rubber along the front then undo all the clips by popping them off with a screw driver to remove the Sound deadning, I chose to replace the rubber strip on the front I think it stops the bonnet rattling. Enjoy the noise!
hadyn
so the bonnet can deffo handle the heat??dont fancy my paint flaking off
Toms Supra
I would of thought so your engine should never get that hot to flake paint!! It takes serious heat for paint to flake/crack.
Rob
You know the soundproofing is also a fire-blanket as well ? That's true, a respected ex-member assisted in the design of the plastic clips, which release the liner at a certain temperature. No, really. hadyn
Just removed mine tonight and gone out for a quick spin. Must say the BOV is a lot louder now Being a bit heavy handed i managed to destroy all the fixings for the front rubber thingy - how important is it??does it stop water getting sprayed into the bay??
