To get a really good result (and I mean if you are printing a copy of a photo), then really you should scan the image to the size you want to output it to, ie, 100mm > 210mm = 210% enlargement etc, or thereabouts, otherwise you may get pixelation on the printed copy.

Hope that helps. :)

a lesson in computers full stop me thinks;)

When you want to scan an image, what you must do is open the scanning window (what you've done), then there should be an option to scan a 'preview' before scanning the full image.

Then once that page (including a rough of your image) is available, you should then use the cropping window, which probably looks like a selection area with moving dash lines. By using the resizing corners of this 'cropping' area, reduce the scan area to fit the photo, or area, that you want to scan, then once you've done that, you should see (probably on the left), options for resolution (300dpi), and a percentage enlargement/reduction etc.

You should then type in the enlargement percentage you want, ie., in this case approx 200%, and this should be enough to scan the photo to around A4, and then once you've done that, click 'OK' or scan, or whatever it is so the photo is scanned, then once that's done, the image should be large enough to print at A4.

You could also do an unsharp mask, approx. 50-100%, which would clear the image slightly, and will print better, but that's a bit more advanced, and I'm not sure what program you are using.

Once saved, you can print from your scanning package, or Photoshop etc, but can also be imported into Word, or another page layout program etc.

Phew, and I hope that helps! :)
