ECU boost reading (VVTi)

Hi all,

Are you able to help me understand this

Few days back I hooked up a Greddy informeter to my Jap 1998 supra twin turbo and had a play around with the readings,... works well.

Looked at the 'IN-MF PRS' expecting to see stock boost. But the max boost only goes upto 2PSI (0.14 hKPa)!!

Ran the car a few times and every time the boost only goes upto 2PSI

The car seem to run fine and I do feel that the car is boosting up properly, similar to other TT supras. My car is completely stock

Then why would the ECU boost reading only go upto 2PSI? :(

As far as I know, there is no FCD or any other electronics that alters ECU signals fitted.

Yes, my next step is to get a boost guage and see what its showing.

Still puzzled why my ECU see only 2PSI through the MAP.

Do you think the MAP sensor could be faulty?

Nic, can you find/dig out the old vehicle compatability list that greddy had for the infometer?? it was something like this

http://www.greddy.com/featured/InfoTouchVol104.pdf

IIRC the 2jz-ge VVti was the only 2jz listed and in the gs300. As the infometer is purely a CAN/OBDII reader, lots of available data streams cannot be read because of maufacturers non standard OBD/CAN protocols and i think many of the sreams are unavailable on the suppose'd obdII 2jz ecus

As far as I know it is completely Stock.

I have previously pulled the dash, ECU out and checked to see if there is any thing under there I could find.......and nothing. I even opened the ECU to see if it has been chipped, but no sign of solder disturbance on hte ECU circuit board.

Unless an FCD is fitted in the engine bay...I doubt if it is there. I have also looked over the engine bay and nothing to be found.

The informeter I am using is the Greddy informeter Touch. It connects well to the car ECU and I can get a whole raft of sensor readings. Like you said some of the readings are not possible but the important once like A/F, Air flow, Inlet lemp, Trottle pos, inj duty cycles are all there. So I am very happy with the prodcut apart form the Boost pressure reading.

Can you think of anything else that may tamper with the MAP signal? Or could it be that the MAP sensor range is only upto 2PSI by design but the ECU will correlate that to actual boost in some wierd and wonderful way!!!
