Firstly i can't bring myself as his mum to even think about porn lol... even tho i know he prob knows far more than i'm aware!..

secondly! i do limit his time on ps3 as his sister wants to watch tv sometimes and so does tony!... that in it self is enough for WW3!

If you could see his reaction to me saying turn it off and go and play believe me you would want to hide..

Perhaps i shall have to be a bit tougher and take it away see if he can calm down abit...:(

Find his trigger point, the thing that means the most at this point in time and simple remove it, return it when behaviour has reached an acceptable level and don't be flexible.[/quot

Sound advice, i had to do something similar regarding school work, he was getting silly behaviour at school and was becoming very frequent in the end i told him he was grounded indefinately until i had a week of complete good behaviour.. it worked too!

I call my computer names every time some little sneaky mo fo jumps out and shoots me! :D

As for the rage thing, feed him eastrogen. He may grow tits and get emotional, be awkward, talk shite, lose all spacial awareness, worry about how big his bum looks in certain clothes, fancy boys etc, but he'll chill out a little bit too! :D

i just enjoy the ps3 because of the online its actualy live, but some kids so make me laugh they take it so serious its not my fault im just toooo goooood. The funny thing is when they send me swear word messages i just asking them " why are you crying" that really gets on their tits:d

Works for my kids too. Its amazing how much time they would spend on the damn things if you let them.

Yes agree totally he would be on 24/7 i think if i let him.. i guess i will have to put up with him thinking i'm mean cos i limit his time and try not to argue back when he goes off on one

Remember you are a parent, not a best friend. It is your job to set guidelines and ensure they are ollowed. Action->reaction stuff. He does something good, he gets 2hours, does something wrong and time is revoked. Over time the triggers will change and it is just a case of changing it.

My eldest daughter's trigger point is her computer to chat to her friends, but she is under no illusion that I can just cut off her internet access without even going in her room. She still has the odd moment but it is still very effective.

Thats pretty good advice. i think i just get fed up with him arguing with everything and says its me bieng horrible and the usual his mates are allowed to do it why can't i etc etc... even tho i know thats not always strictly true as i found out..

I think i will have to put the above into practice :D

Thank you

I am 23 and can finally say I am done with playing games, computer and console, on a regular basis. I used to get mad a bit, some people just overreact. Honestly I can't see you talking to him about calming down actually helping because you are his parent. My parents and I used to have endless arguments about the amount of time I spent on the computer, it didn't really ever do anything but make me frustrated, however, when it hits an "unhealthy" point I would agree with JustGav's approach. Clearly, video games are his interest at the time, this could mean he wants to be an artist, or a video game programmer, or any of the other multitude of jobs that go into making games, which is not a bad thing! You just have to identify when it is unhealthy :D

Good grief my mate's parents used to let them drive the cars at 12, stay up till 3am..all sorts.

Of course it wa sall crap. The key I found as I've become a parent is consistancy. Even when my wife don't always agree on the reaction to the child's action we will never let them see that. They always see a single parental unit and there are rarely any gaps for them to say 'Mom said I could' as I've usually already had the chat with her. Whenever they ask major things the instant answer is 'I'll speak to dad/mom first'. The other thing we have found useful is consistancy with the punishments, as well as very little compromise;"I know I'm grounded but can I go to a party/school trip',NO!". Punishments which are recinded become a trigger point which the child can use back, they know they can plead and get their own way.

Maybe harse and I get called 'Kommondant' by a few friends, but discipline is something I find lacking in many kids, much like manners. Again I'm a fan of corporal punishment in school, never did me much harm other than realize there are consequences for my actions.

I always thought Gav was all cool and free... now it turns out he's this nazi parenting machine

Who saw that coming? I'm glad you're not my dad :D

Another vote for the bongo mags here :innocent:

hahahah...oh I'm still fun to hang with... Funny this is we are considered the 'crazy cool parents' by the daughter's friends much to her annoyance :)

If he is having some silly behaviour at school sometimes and gets frustrated at the computer, have you tried to find out if anything bores him?

When i was at school we had a young lad who got bored in class and had a few silly moments and his anger issues were pretty bad.

His parents took him for an assesment with some doc (not sure what type)

But it turned out he was clever than everyone thought and he got bored and frustrated due to the work being easy and too simple for him.

Last i heard from him he was designing and building gaming software and making a fortune for doing something he still loves and finds easy.

Firstly, I'm probably a gamer above anything else. I do get stressed if a I die a critical moment, or the machine dies before I've saved - waste of half an hour - or the classic moment you get the ring-of-death on the xbox. The most you will get from me is a disbelieving "Oh you've got to be having a giraffe."

I can remember being more upset as a kid, but never having a go at my dad because quite frankly he would probably shout louder and scarier. A couple of times as a child I'm quite sure I p*ssed myself out of fear. Early on dad threatened us with and used the cane. Had us in tears. BUT looking back, it made me the disciplined, somewhat unhinged introvert I am today.

Like Gav said, don't show weakness. If you show a crack - they will take advantage of it for the rest of your life (God know I did!) playing you off your wife and before you know it you'll be saying "Ask your mother."

I don't think it's the games, I think your boy needs to the law laid down the next time he goes vesuvius.

I can sorta vouch for this, not to toot my own horn but when I was younger I got skipped 1 grade because it was deemed to easy for me, been to state spelling bee a few times and generally was a 4.0 student without ever cracking a book.

Sadly I chose to apply my intelligence to video games at an unhealthy level which pretty much ruined college for me. That is why I implore you to figure it out when it is unhealthy and slow it down a bit. I program software and tinker with computers alot in my spare time from being full time awesome in the Air Force hehe
