Markie
Managed to get around to fitting the new plugs today.. Man, what an ordeal compared to normal cars. Them damn pipes between the cam covers were the worst! Plugs I took out looked quite sooty all around the head except by the tips. So hopfully these new ones should help a bit with the damn emission problem. Anyways, all back togeather now and the car seems to run fine... If anything it feels alot smoother and a bit quicker on the uptake. Going to try and get all this oil out of my finger nails now

Markie
IK27's? I got the Denso IK24's, did not know they did 27's. Are they better again? By the way, just getting a bit paranoid.. Would it be noticable if one or more of the plugs were not firing? Just doubting myself and car DIY skills here
hadyn
now got spark plug chaning down to a 40 min job!! when replacing the coil packs always keep the screws in situ and lower the pack back into the chamber - saves all those nervous moments of losing screws down the holes... really did suprise me for a jap car to have such a badly designed system for maintainence!! doesnt matter though as the rest of the car makes up for it!! terribleturner
Im runing with 27's and never had any problems what so ever. And they were in there when the car was back to just an air filter.

I think it's a good design considering the high-tech coil-on-plug setup. It's a 20 minute job anyway And that's with a strut brace in the way Have an overfuelling problem then a misfire problem, gets the times down remarkably 40 minutes is almost enough to change the injectors -Ian
ardasaliah
''Them damn pipes between the cam covers were the worst''! tip- get a pair of pliers and grip the pipe in the middle and then twist- comes straight off '''really did suprise me for a jap car to have such a badly designed system for maintainence!! doesnt matter though as the rest of the car makes up for it''''!! - you sure the oil filter aint in a cleaver location. Gota remove the power steering reservoir to get to it.
Markie
Ohh yeah, them pipes were the worst bit.. Hit my knuckles a few times doing them little bastards! I think I will have to replace mine next time, as they were quite hard and I think next time they will split Anyone know what they actually do then? Keep presssure the same between the two cams or something?
carl0s
- you sure the oil filter aint in a cleaver location. Gota remove the power steering reservoir to get to it. Nope. Jack car up from front. Lie under car. Put arm up round passengerside wishbone with Marigolds on hands. Twist and remove oil filter which is still full to the top with oil. Markie
Damn.. Not a way of getting access to the filter without jacking it up etc??
carl0s
Damn.. Not a way of getting access to the filter without jacking it up etc?? I reckon I could do it without jacking the car up if I was to park the car with the passenger side up on the kerb of a road. All depends on how low your car is I suppose. merckx
You can get to the oil filter from above , no need to move anything!

Did i do it differently or something? They never seemed to get in my way

They never seemed to get in my way I managed to do it (JUST!) by removing only the second pipe (closest to the firewall). hmmm. is yours an NA or do you have a special technique? It seems strange, its a tt did it a couple of weeks ago. Im no mechanic just thought id have a bash at changing the plugs. Mine are hard aswell, need to get some new ones for next time. It helps a lot if you heat them up with a hot hairdryer.
Jspec Germany
Did my first oil change yesterday. What a PITA. Went in from passenger side underneath without removing anything. Hot tranny and hot oil. What a mess. Relocation kit looking attractive. About to go attempt plug change. Anybody got more hints or pics about these pipes? I hope my coil packs aren't f*cked.
