Twin or single - acceleration

the supra is an unreal car but only in the hands of someone whos experienced with it. the car does like getting sideways and eating tyres.

I've read this on here a lot. My current tyres have 12k miles on them and loads of tread left. I think mine is also better behaved than most on here because it doesn't go sideways unless my right foot tells it to ;)

it totally depends how you drive, my last set of 19's lasted about 4k miles and the ones i have on now have lasted erm lets say 1 month.............:p

Search for bignum Vs littlenum's video from last year's Supra Pod. That's a decent benchmark for a Single Vs a BPU TT.

There is a big difference between acceleration of the line and acceleration once moving. It is difficult to launch well with a typical single turbo Supra compared to a TT; you'll either bog down or hit massive wheelspin and then spin the wheels whilst a TT dissapears into the distance and/or bog down.

The fastest drag Supras are indeed big singles, but they usually use anti-lag (poor engine, turbo, manifold... :() and are set up for the strip (i.e. straight lines a speciality); take sort of car to a track and it's unlikely to be as fast as your bit of paper might have suggested.

What do you really want? To be able to brag down the pub or to drag race or to have fun on tracks...or...?

Where did your required figures for 0-60 come from? If it's pub-ammo you want, just do what most people in there do... Lie ;) A well set up BPU Supra will be plenty fun! And they're not exactly slow cars from stock either! A Supra that goes 0-60 in sub 4 seconds I imagine is going to be a bitch as a daily driver! Not good on fuel, and will eat more tyres than a tyre-eating monster with a big appetite! :D

As you need an auto, then upgrading the gearbox to cope with big power will cost £££!

I'd recommend finding a nice UK spec auto, BPUing it, and concentrating on a good suspension set up and making sure all the bushes and such are in good condition and replaced. Then looking at brake upgrades, light weight wheels, good tyres, and enjoying the reliability and stability of the Supe! Then later on you can look into the single option if the power no longer quenches your thirst! ;)

In terms of acceleration i would like sumwhere in region of 4sec of under 0-60 ?

You are kidding? 0-60kph? or do you REALLY mean 0-100kph (0-60mph roughly)

Toyota Supra - 5.7 (Stock TT)

A stock TT will hit 60 faster than that in the right conditions though. 5 seconds isn't that far off the mark IMO. I reckon with the right tyres and suspension the difference between stock TT and Small single would be 0-0.5 sec difference max.

Brand spanking new Stock TT with good tyres and a good launch.... 5 secs. Some of the dogs i have seen with ditch finders... 6-30 secs.

The OP has to have Auto though and they aren't so easy to get moving so a 5 second to 60 is unlikely, Toyota themselves couldn't hit that ;)

Funny, I've always thought autos would hand a 6spd it's ass in a 0-60 standing start due to the miracle of power braking. In the hands of pretty much everyone here and not a Toyota test driver.

For the average driver yes an Auto is faster but its still not 5 seconds to 60 fast.

I reckon the auto would see a more consistant 5 sec 0-60. I know Jake managed it in a tiptronic, although that might have been at BPU. However, as i said, i don't think BPU/Stock/Single would be much different to 60 in the same conditions. When you add road going slicks to the mix then the power from the single/bpu would obviously make a difference but road tyres give up the grip before our engines give up the power.

I edited to highlight my point about BPU vs Stock for 60 lol, sorry :)

no worries.

I did some digging from a J tuner day where they had a calibrated GPS for recording data and this was the results for the cars as an interesting comparison:

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=423786&postcount=207

KGhelmets is an Auto. so is Mr Angry's. S cranes is a 6 speed.

The only thing that can't be seen on that table is how healthy the car is. Tyres, suspension, engine etc are all major factors.

I think a stock auto in A1 condition would break 14 seconds for the 1/4 mile.

well as steveR said me and my bro both have uk spec manual supra's mine is TT bpu at about 1.3 so 420 ish, bro running a t67 single at 1.3 - 1.4 and up the strip he couldnt catch me.

We recently went to a trackday at rockingham and i followed him around for about 4 laps and was keeping up quite well, to say he's a better driver then me as well.

We also had a stright line race on my local private road upto 120 there was nothing init and he was close to 530bhp but after 120 - 130 the BHP starts to show and i eat his dust lol.

Any turbo supra will make you smile, but if your going to bpu it then id suggest a UK model at that kind of price you want to pay as they are a little more tunable as they have better fuel pump and bigger injectors as standard.

A BPU Supra will keep you happy for a while, my Supra was a lot of fun. I had HKS 264 in/ex cam's, 550 injectors, FMIC, oil cooler, and an E-Manage Ultimate fitted and mapped to 1.3, on top of the usual BPU part's, and it was a quick car. :). You could do the same and add a set of hybrid turbo's for a little extra, it wouldn't disappoint. This would also keep the car very reliable if looked after. :) .

If you really want to go single and keep the standard auto box, you'll need to keep to a small turbo for good response, something like a T61 would give you a good kick. You would need to at least fit a transmission cooler if going this route though.

I would go for a nice looking BPU, its plenty of power for the UK and has a greater level of reliability IMO, Single as an everyday car is not for everyone, especially on an auto box, it just wont last, cant understand why people chase big BHP figures :innocent:

my mistake, did realise that he wanted a supra with the pussy transmission, in which case, I wouldnt bother with a single :D
