jamesmark
Its not the fuel thats the problem its more down to the fumes!! You will be waiting a very long time for it to ignite then.
Fifty
petrol is not ignitable by a lit or puffed on cigarette - strange but true Rich
Dan_Turism0
Had a similar one, when having our drive block paved by some kind irish folk they accidentally split a gas pipe 20ft from our house, the guy proceeded to light a fag and also start digging away with a jack hammer lol
benkei
About the same intelligence as people that actually think that a fag would ignite fuel. Have tests been done to find out if a cigarette will or will not ignite fuel and/or the fumes? If you're willing to video yourself standing in a pool of petrol and dropping a lit cigarette into it as evidence then I'd be more than happy to admit that I (as many other members on here) was wrong in beliveing a burning piece of paper rolled around burning tobacco would not ignite a flamable substance. AndrewOW
If the cigarette was dropped into a pool of petrol it won't ignite, just would be extinguished, as its a liquid after all. Its the vapour that ignites very easily, but it has to be a naked flame to do it. I think she would notice the difference quite quickly if it was tested! Smoking should be banned from the forecourt anyway IMO. Mobile phones wouldn't do anything either. Richard Hammond tested that on Brainiacs once. So there

Many many times, it has even been on Mythbusters which is a well documented show.
Lbm
I suppose if she lit the fag near a pump, that may be more hazardous.

imi
Pulled into a petrol station (which was empty) got out the car (as you do) was just about to fill up the car when I noticed the attendant was on the oher side of the pump to me cleaning the pumps. When I looked at her shes got a cigarette in her mouth! So I asked what she thought she was doing to which the reply was 'Havin a fag!'. She could obviously tell from my face I was shocked so the next words out of her mouth were 'you got a problem wiv it'. Which prompted me to put the deisel pump back down and promptly leave the petrol station. Thinking about it now I should have take a picture of just how stupid she was and reported it to Mr Esso. Still cant believe it LOL. Cant believe you left.....youre a big lad, should have walked up to her and snatched it out of her mouth and put it out for her.... RedM
Lads.... calm down. When I posted about spraying her with fuel I was thinking of blinding her or at least making her smell of fuel all day. I didn't that she should have been set on fire. That would just be mean.
craig l
Saw the same in cyprus a few years ago, pulled into the petrol station to fill up hire car looked over to see 2 guys filling up their cars smoking, filled up and got the hell out of there really fast. SilverSoop
Seen plenty of people in the US smoking while filling up Yeah but it's the US, they can do anything they want... Unlike our now communist-like country!!
ivan
Whather her fag would have set light to the fuel vapours or not is irrelevant. There are plenty of no smoking signs all over the place at filling stations that they want the public to obey. But how can they expect the public to take notice when their own staff clearly don't? I would have taken her name, possibly a phone pic of her smoking at the pumps and stitched her up to Esso.

marbleapple
When I was at uni I worked in a garage. My training (yes you get trained!) advised me that if you dropped a phone you could cause a spark.... which would ignite things... I pointed out that surely you could drop anything and get a spark.... I was told to stop being argumentative.

ivan
Aren't mobiles supposed to be switched off too?Oops - forgot that. A quick question for all the naysayers. Accepted that a dropped cig won't set light to the garage, but how and where did the stupid tart light her fag in the first place?
