Chris Wilson
I had my assessment for my LGV training this morning. Whilst the instructor was kind enough to say he had no reason to think i couldn't successfully drive the thing to John O' Groats without mishap he was of the opinion the tester would rate me as a menace to all and I need 20 hours instruction to become proficient in an examiners eyes In simple terms it'll cost the best part of a grand to undo 35 years of experience and bad habits for a one hour test, only for me to probably slip into my slovenly ways soon after. I asked a friend who fairly recently passed for his insight, and he said it was really drummed into him how you MUST NOT use the vehicle to intimidate other road users. As he was telling me this he was edging a Transit into a position of terror approaching the end of dual carriageway.... It's amazing just how "bad" you can become doing the most simple manoeuvres, in the eyes of an instructor. I don't tend to get through many flasher units or indicator bulbs though, with my methods....
colsoop
When i was taking my C+E test i got marked down for giving cyclists and drivers too much room I suppose it depends on what test instructor you get really. I got taught to close gaps at roundabouts and corners otherwise a motorist would try and drive in to said space
Chris Wilson
I got taught to close gaps at roundabouts and corners otherwise a motorist would try and drive in to said space I'll have no problem with that The 8 speed box with dual range is a PITA though, that'll take a bit of getting used to under pressure. tbourner
I'd love to do a truck course of some kind and get a license. My problem is I'm fine at speeds, but I'm absolute crap at manouvering. I could see me getting the artic down a road and then needing to ask someone to back it out for me!! I've had 4 accidents in my driving life, 1 wasn't my fault and the other 3 were pulling into/out of parking spaces! Maybe I shouldn't drive anything too large. SteveR
I sometimes wonder how I'd get on if I took my driving test again now [awaits abuse] - I think I can remember enough of how it should be done to pretend I drive like that all the time but it'd be interesting to find out (prefereably with no risk to my license!). Did you buy that big truck then Chris? Does this mean you'll be taking 3~4 cars to each track day form now on??
supra-lover
Chris pay me 500 notes and I'll drive it there for you
Pete
I drove a 10 tonne artic once, had to reverse it and generally arse about in it. Quite an eye opening experience.
