Robbie Posted March 19, 2009 Share Posted March 19, 2009 I pulled up at Morrisons to get some fuel for my car yesterday evening, switched of the ignition and lights and filled up the car. When I started up the car and switched on the lights once more... Nothing! In the end I drove home on the front fogs and sidelights. By the time I returned home it was too late to start fiddling with the lights. I tried again this morning before work but nothing! Which fuse does the lights? Could it be a bad earth? Could the bulbs have gone at the same time? Have the ballasts gone south! Has anyone else suffered the same problem with HID's? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
R Black Posted March 19, 2009 Share Posted March 19, 2009 cant see both hids failing at the same time, and the last time a headlight failed on a car fot me iirc the fuses were for the left and the right side, so were independan, i dont know if our Supes are the same in that respect tho. Robbie Posted March 19, 2009 Author Share Posted March 19, 2009 Two 15Amp fuses. Ok Great! I'll have a look later. I' doubt both the bulbs or ballasts blew at the same time but you never know. Matt Harwood wired them up for me so I have to admit to not really taking much notice of the installation, just happy that I could see the road so much more clearly at night. ( not including last night:Pling:) They've been on the car for a couple of years now without issue, although last week, now I think on it they went out last week briefly after they had been on for a while when I turned them back on to put the car away, Hmmm! On mine you have 15amp fuse on the Ballasts as well which you might wanna check. Konrad Posted March 19, 2009 Share Posted March 19, 2009 It is possible that you current installation is struggling to fire up ballast at initial stage. To do it properly you will need harness, so power will be drained straight from the battery on start, not through all internal light system, fuses and such. E85 can do that to a car:D:cool: The sad truth is that the only things that have trouble keeping up with my car are my bank balance and my reactions! Robbie Posted March 20, 2009 Author Share Posted March 20, 2009 I got the volt meter out. I had to remove the headlamps to get to the wires and ballasts. When I checked the voltage across the wires I was only getting 2.3volts. when I removed the passenger headlamp I could see the wireing. It turned out to be a separate fuse attatched to the wire harness had gotten corroded. The HIDs had been wired up with a harness simialr to the one shown in the thread on ebay.
