ADL Mark Posted March 16, 2009 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Just finished doing some bits to my fields harness and adding some extra wires to it to make it useful. I've made a small loom and wired it in to the harness for my datalogger (Innovate LMA-3). This loom has it's own plug so that the datalogged can be unplugged from the harness and either removed without too much hassle with pulling wires back through small gaps in the dashboard. I've also got a few spare wires in the harness should I want to expand what I do with the datalogger or add extra functionality. One last thing that I had a brainwave about the other day, was finding a fairly simple way to power my gadgets and accessories. Things like gauges, boost controller, etc. I wanted a way to easily share one power source amongst these devices and them not be permanently wired in. The idea I came up with was using Molex connectors, the same as the connectors used in computers to connect hard drives and CD/DVD drives. My main reasonings being that the connectors are cheap and easy to come by, and that you can plug and unplug things very easily so they are not hard wired in. Everything becomes modular as such. You can even expand the amount of connectors easily by going down the local computer shop and buying splitters to add 2 or 3 more connectors. I've only bothered using two of the four pins for 12V and earth as that's all I will be needing. The reason for the extra Molex plugs in the temperature sensors is that they are originally designed for computer case use, and there is (hidden by the black tape) and inline resistor for them. ADL Mark Posted March 16, 2009 Author Share Posted March 16, 2009 Cheers Darryl I'm very glad I bought it, the one and only thing that I wired in to the car loom was the BCC and it was a nightmare, there's so little slack in the loom that it made it very difficult to do anything.
