Mike B
No noise at idle... when the car gets warm I get an intermediate rattle or knocking, noise changes when I depress the clutch but it is still there when in and out. I had thought release bearing, but as the noise is there in and out it may not be; however I feel the clutch is adjusted poorly, so it may be still touching the bearing when the clutch is up. could be flywheel (stock on a ferra metallic clutch) or release bearing How hard is it to get this clutch apart? Is it something a half decent toolbox can do? or is it a Gearbox out job?
Konrad
You can support gearbox and drop front slightly to get there, but I do not see what is a problem with taking it out completely? Gearbox is literally outside of the car, access is one ofthe easiest I've seen on cars You should try Vauxhall Vectra to feel the pain Regards Konrad

I'm familiar with the box, had a good look round, but appearances, I have learned, can often be deceptive!! get under the car, remove the little rubber next to the slave cylinder and spray some wd40! mine was doing the same, now is like new! Good stuff.. lol I guarantee I'll spray it on the clutch face.

Mike B
sounds like the same as mine when the bearing & bearing carrier were worn. are you getting as engagement difficulties Mike? Not at all, box is fine, no issues at all.... You are jesting right;) It does sound like a worn thrust bearing mike. I'm hoping... Mike, what clutch do you have? I have a HKS twin plate and its noisey as heck! Sounds like a bag of nails.....i hate it It's a ferra metallic fella, not sure the make, but it's been silent until now. A little grabby but I can drive it smooth as silk with practice. Thing is that the clutch was silent.. now it's noisy which suggests that something is about to let go, and vibrations through the clutch pedal is a bad sign in my book!! lol I fancy a new selector fork in the box as well, so I may have it all opened up and sorted... Terry bent the selector fork on a strip run, and the stick has never been as precise as it could be.. hope we can get some spares for the getrag. Chris Wilson
Most of the internal bits like forks are the same as an R34 GTR Skyline, AFAIK. Manual gearbox bits cost the earth, a good used box is often cheapest.

Manual gearbox bits cost the earth, a good used box is often cheapest. I was thinking that I may be best to take it to a gearbox specialist, and ask to view all the bits that are not well. Expensive month, as I need a new front control arm (ball joint failure) and then need to do another geo set, as well as a new set of 3555 disks (£400 a pair!).
