How long does this take to learn guy's as i would love to try this and how much does it cost?

Where is the best place local in staffordshire?;)

Thanks guy's

Do a search for your local dive centres and give them a ring.

You can do complete courses when on holiday although there is a fair bit of classroom textbook stuff to do.

So a good way would be to do the exams and swimming pool stuff here in the uk and finish it off when you next go away if don't want to be freezing cold and in darkness. But if you qualify by diving in uk waters it will be a doddle diving in the nice clear warm waters when you go on your hols.

Have a look on here http://www.padi.co.uk/

If its something you think you would like to do then DO IT as its a different world but go to a pool and do a try dive as i have seen so many people panic and thats the last thing you want to do.

Thanks for the info fella big help:thumbs: I wouldn't mind doing an under water welding course:) any ideas where they do that.

Easy fella. One step at a time :D

Read up through the previous posts and have a chat with supra size me as he done all of that commercial stuff.

Or do you just want to show and weld some car bits under water?

When you go for your try dive just ask them as they will tell you what steps to take to get where you want. Im only in it for the fun of it.

I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing some sharks and decent wrecks next year in the dominican.

Just need to pull my finger out and do some more online exams  Need to go deeper for longer (yeah that may sound odd :D)

After a try dive you normally do the open water, then advance open water and so on.

Each is a qualification that involves normally pool dives, dives in open water (sea etc) and some theory/exams.

You can do the boring stuff at home online and just do the practical at the dive centres.

You can do the theory at the dive centres if you wish though if you have a bit more spare time

Have a look here at the most common courses. click on each and it will you give an idea whats done

How did it go?

I had to cancel fella as I have been bad and a sore throat and the thought of having the breathing equipment in my mouth for an hour and a half made me cringe. I have booked for the 29th of this month as that was the first weekend they had, I will let you know as soon as we have been bud

Finished a couple of courses this weekend, was quite chilly at 5°c and vis down to less than a meter in places but lots more events all over the uk coming up, kicking off next month when it should be a bit warmer.

Anyone fancy it or need a buddy?

I picked up a couple of air bottles for the air jacks on a race car, and for running small tools et cetera. Neither have the rubber bases that my old ones had, so they won't stand up unaided. Where can I buy a couple of the rubber bases that give the cylinders a flat end to stand on and a bit of protection? Thanks. I should have taken them off the old bottles...

I am going in the workshop in a minute, I'll measure them, thanks for the link Stuart, appreciated. I would like to buy a petrol or electric powered bottle compressor, but the prices seem very high. I missed a bargain at an auction last year, it was ex fire service, but I had no idea just how much they fetched and chickened out :(

No problem Chris. I've not really looked into the price of a compressor but can imagine them not being cheap. It only costs a couple of quid to fill a cylinder so you don't really miss the money anyway.

I've just had a quick look on ebay and the cylinder boots aren't that cheap. So you may as well stick with the ones from simply scuba. Their service is generally quite good as well.

Been diving about 9 months myself - started by doing my PADI Open Water in Cyprus then joined my local dive club in Scotland since and started diving lochs mostly, that necessitated dry suit spec then did my Advanced OW followed by Nitrox spec and Deep spec. Have been to 40m a few times, would like to go deeper but realise it's into tech diving and expensive gas mixes. Will do Wreck and Drift specs next as well as Rescue Diver cert and settle for 'Master Scuba Diver' cert from that lot for now - would like to head down the Divemaster route but don't have the time to devote to it.

Invested in all my own kit including a couple of 12L Cylinders but would like to add a pony bottle for the deeper stuff as you start to realise your mortality!

Have a Shark Dive coming up soon at Deep Sea World in Fife - should be interesting!

Cheers,

Brian.
