Some MKIV questions from a dirty Swede!!

Hello!

My name is Cim, and I'm quite new in the lovely Supra business :p

First of all, check out my car:

It's a J-spec Toyota Supra MKIV TT - TTC from 1993.

So here's my questions:

1. I'm going BPU this spring so I will need to fit a restrictor ring to my HKS exhaust.

My question is: where should I put the restrictor ring? Between the downpipe and the midpipe? Or am I totally wrong?

2. If I install the restrictor ring is it really necessary to install a BC to? Or will it function properly with only the restrictor ring? My goal is to boost around 1 bar or something like that?!

Yeaah, thats it..

Cheeeeers mates!!

So I don't have to install the BC if I have a restrictor ring mounted? Right?

Yes, you don't *need* a BC with a restrictor ring, but it is nice to have that extra control.

For example, if you set your restrictor size to keep boost to 1.2bar at 5 degree temps, in the middle of summer you might only see 1 bar. The boost controller allows that little more control to bring the boost levels back up once the weather warms up.

And another question for you guys..

If I decide to install a Dawes Device, where shall I put it? The hose between the Wastegate and ?

They're not really a good idea, you'd do far better to get a cheap electronic BC so that you have some level of in-car control over boost.

If you've not done so already, have a read here (click the blue text): bpu

I've read some different stuff about the Dawes, but it worked well on my 1995 Mitsu Evo 3 so I think that I will try it at my Supra to ;) So where shall I put it?

Thanks btw!!

By all means try it, it's only a poor mans way of increasing boost. It will work of course, but they're just a PITA in the long run especially if the temps where you are change regularly.
