:)Not a lot to work with here...

Basically, if the Volvo engine is the same type (inboard / shaft drive or sterndrive) uses the same fuel, has the same or very similar power / rpm limit, and is a similar physical size and weight as the one thats in or was in the boat, then you stand a fighting chance of it being suitable.

However, even if you tick all the above, there's still the gearbox and or sterndrive transom plate (depending on drive system) to worry about....

Assuming the Volvo has a gearbox attached, you need to check the reduction ratio (is it similar ratio to what is in the boat now) and output flange dimensions (is it going to fit the shaft coupling).

Check direction of output rotation matches the prop rotation (some gearboxes give same power / rpm in reverse, but a lot don't)

Engine beds....

will the Volvo engine mounts fit the boats engine beds (height above shaftline and width between mounts).

Systems....

check 12v or 24v.

Will the engine exhaust line up with existing hull outlet.

Will the engine raw water cooling inlet line up with existing pipe-work.

General fit...

Will the engine sump clear the hull when the output flange is lined up on the shaftline.

Will the top of the engine fit under the deck when lined up with the shaft.

Will there be enough clearance between front of engine and bulkhead.

Will the installation allow sufficient clearance / access to top oil and water up.

Best I can do with the info you have provided...even if some of the points I've raised don't match, there are ways round them, but it can become very expensive very quickly.

More than willing to advise further, but you need to give more info !

(Definition of a boat... a hole in the water, lined with GRP, into which is thrown large amounts of money)
