Bike track days without a road licence

edge

Recommended Posts

Im thinking of getting back on a bike this summer just to do track days. I dont have a bike licence and looking at all the tracks most require you to have a full uk licence.

Done a bit of googling and found the acu licence site.

Would this allow me to attend most track days?

Also if you have done a few bike days, what bike did you find good round a track?

Are we talking small 250cc bikes or larger sports bikes??

As i took my GSXR round a track and i couldnt fault it to be honest even my brother on his Hayabusa didnt struggle and they are a bus compared to other sports bikes, i guess it depends on the rider more than the bike ;)

Yesterday I bought a Honda RVF400 for exactly this purpose. I just can't wait. You don't need a mega 1 litre machine to have a great time. The RVF400 (NC35) is ideal. It's small and pokey and bits don't cost an arm and a leg if you bin it.

I used to ride a thunderace (1000cc), ridden a few others gsxr, r1 etc doing silly things but never got a licence as mainly used private areas.

I sat on a cbr900 years ago and it felt similar to a ducati 916 nice and compact.

I prefer the smaller sized bike but not too keen on 600's but never done anything on track so was wondering if anyone had tried tried both 600ish cc on track aswel as bigger cc.

I wont do my road licence as i cant trust myself and would loose my licence or die quickly

As for size im about 15stone but quite tall with it - 5ft10 ish

But the last option would be look into doing a restricted or direct access or whatever its called now but fear temptation would be to much :D

As Chewie's done, the 400 - 600 range will deliver the most fun. You have to work the box harder and you get more satisfaction getting a lap right. The larger stuff you can just go round in fourth and get good results.

At 15 stone I'd go for a 600 :innocent::D

It would be just a pure track bike and not for the road.

Seen a few trick gadgets out there to aid full throttle gear changes:eyebrows:
