caseys
Afternoon all, I'm looking for holidays as the missus is getting made redundant and wants to spend some of her cash on a holiday. I'm not complaining Any ideas on good places to go on the following criteria? A) Somewhere hot B) Not Europe or USA due to guff exchange rate (apartr from a coast-to-coast road trip in the US or going to Miami as there's a damn good tattoo parlour there) C) No where violent. I suggested Baghdad or North Korea as climate is nice and got hit for my troubles D) Not cyprus or Turkey, been there already. Open to ideas of cruises or going somewhere and hiring a car/4x4/boat and doing an interesting holiday, doesn't just have to be lying in the sun. 2-3-4 Week duration. Currently considering Tunisia, Africa, Mexico, Brasil or Asia, Japan or NZ/Australia. Any stories of interesting tours/holidays/cruises?

I've been told the skies at night in Africa are awesome due to the lack of light pollution, so I'd really like to see that. Has cape town improved that much? I've been told by guys here that have had to go over there for work as we've got an office there that there's some places you just don't want to venture at night. probrox
I'd suggest Goa, but they have monsoon season until October. Absolutley fantastic place though. Extremely friendly people, lovely weather, great food and you get alot for your money. Definately the best holiday we have ever had.
BigDino
Mombasa, NZ or Vietnam all great places and completely different.

AndyT
NZ or Vietnam. Friend just got back from SA. Got threatened with guns twice by car thieves. He was with a mate who lives there and knows what to do, not do. Where to go and not go. Too much hassle. Australia has one city in the west. Very little light pollution there. stevie_b
Not Turkey, been there already. Thread hijack: I'm thinking of going to Turkey for a hotel-beach-type holiday with a bit of sightseeing. Any resort worth considering/avoiding? As for your holiday, I've been on a cruise around the Med (Italy-Kusadasi-Venice-Athens-Monaco) with Celebrity which was very good. If you take the cruise-organised tours, you get led around by a guide and cocooned on your air-con'd coach which may or may not be a good thing. I'd vote NZ. I've always wanted to go there. Japan's really good as well, if you know where to go and how to get around.
colsoop
May onwards I think as that's when missus gets her payout. It starts to get cooler iN NZ around then late September to Feb is the best time for NZ. Egypt looks to be an interesting mix of culture and activities. Also the far east would be good but i would check for monsoon seasons.
caseys
Heh came back from Singapore last month. I have been thinking of Thailand, Phuket etc, or Nepal (but I think that's fairly cold) Hmm mixed reviews on SA then! I was told Cape Town can be dangerous sometimes. Thanks for the info on Tunisia. Why did it suck though? Goa may be considered! My missus wants to experience a monsoon season! *tries to remember where that location was that has thunderstorms for 120+ days* Vietnam was inspiring on that Top Gear special wasn't it? Could hire a 4x4 or such and tour the country. I'm sometimes a bit hammond like with food though (I hate veg) but will happily chow down on anything that had eyes and moved.
