benkei
I'm looking to change my wheels, as one of mine is not perfectly circular and causes vibrations at speed, which makes driving uncomfortable and makes me paranoid the car unstable! The guy who fitted new tyres and balanced the wheel told me about it and said he'd balanced it as best he could, but it wasn't perfect, so at least I was aware there was a problem. I have found a nice set or wheels to replace them for a good price... However one of the wheels has a 'flat spot' on it. Apparently it's simple to fix... But what exactly is a flat spot? Is that what I have on mine already? Is it simple to fix?
Guigsy
flat spot in f1 terms means someones locked up and taken a good chunk of rubber out of the tire. I guess it could be the same but one hell of a lock up on a road tire! What exactly is the problem with the wheel is it just out of shape? if its just buckled it could probably be sorted. benkei
Well the wheels don't have tyres, so it's not a flat spot on the tyre. On my wheel, I think it's miss-shapen, maybe due to impact? I can't think of any other reason how could be miss-shapen. The guy I bought them off didn't mention anything about it to me when I bought them... So I'm not sure? EDIT: Just had a better look at the pics, and the wheels has a dent on it, which is probably what he means. Easy or cheap to fix? L18msy
They can be repaired, but sometimes it isnt a case if just knocking the dent out, ive known wheels to crack when straightened then the wheel needs to be welded. Try and find a wheel repair specialist and ask his advice and quotes.
