Green Peace
[rant] I'm always entertained by the public transport jibes. So its not perfect and yes other countries have better systems, but for me its quicker than going by car to London, I get to have a kip to and from work, have a drink after work and no hassle of who drives home. Public transport costs me more than the congestion charge would, but I get full travel through all zones for my money. Why people want to drive in London is beyond me, I do feel sorry for the people who need to drive into central London for their business , but with any luck it'll start to price out some of the idle people who can't possibly leave their luxury vehicle and mingle with the masses. London smells disgusting during the day, anything they can do to improve that works for me. [/rant off] I know I'm not going to be popular by agreeing but I have to say it does make some kind of sence in some way... The Congestion Charge (as it stands) dosn't bother or affect me as I too prefer to get the train into town rather than pay £30- £55 to park in an NCP for the day plus the Congestion Chardge, but i only work in Town occasionally! If you go into any NCP in the West End its normally full of Range Rovers, Ferraris, Porsches, top end Mercs etc...so I say yeah let the rich cunts cough up and help to 'better' public transport by paying even more money for congestion Charge! Obviously there are people that fall through the net, like Painter/Decorators who need to take vans with their tools in and that should be looked at...but apart from that it works for London, and it may work for Heathrow too. Often its quite nice to drive into the central zone if you have to and you can claim for the charge...so different now theres less traffic, less pollution, more parking etc etc...I hated it when they first implemented it...but I think its worked! kunwho
Any one with parents with the blue disabled badges? You can register the car registration as being a 'disabled user car'. The camera doesn't read if there a blue badge on board the car. Only to recognise number plates. London CC exempt pdf I travel London twice a week and no problem for me. Then again I'm a disabled driver. I couldn't care if anyone abuses the London CC but I do care if people abuses parking in disabled parking bays. Todd
Does anyone think that eventually other cities like birmingam, manchester etc etc will follow London's example and implement a congestion charge of somekind? Not in Edinburgh they wont
imi
Hmm....and RED KENs now thinking of introducing a price per mile policy using in-car GPS....figures in the air are £1.30 per mile in london. Someone issue a Fatwa against this nutter. :littled:

kunwho
Or to avoid London CC you can buy and register a black cab. I don't think they pay CC in anyway and you can even drive in bus lanes. I'm sure with one of these you can get to point A to point B faster than any sports car in London http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFriendly/0,,1-120-749556,00.html Some celebs drive cabs. Supragal
I have to say that the idea of driving in London doesn't appeal to me at all. I always take the train and tube. Dead easy, bosh, anywhere in London in no-time. Lovely.

If i can't use my own transport to get to work i unfortunatly Britsh Rail it to Marylebone and then get a Taxi to Camden. Takes a tenth of the time, i don't get squeezed into an over heated packed train, and i also get to watch the world as i go through town. What makes you think that these stupid policies will be limited to central london....The muppet plans to expand this to Kensington, Chelsea, Heathrow.... What about Wimbledon Village? I don't know much about the CC to be honest. Do residents have to pay?

Plus I rarely go to London so it doesn't bother me. I was there on bank hol mon, was busy and I thought I wonder if I could do this every day? For the right salary I could I reckon, doubt it'd cost me any more than running a car (like the rover)
imi
There is no Congestion Charge on BANK Holidays, which is why it was packed on easdter Monday, not to mention the fact that the weather was very good. At the moment, residents within the zone get a 95% discount, exactly...the Charge is NOT designed to deter residents of central london, it is designed to penalise people who live outside but have to drive through it. In other words....its a TAX.
Supragal
I dunno, I'd love it if there was some charge to stop non-residents driving near where I lived so it wasn't rammed constantly.
