I have a fair amount of dot 5.1 fluid in the shed, do you think I could use this or should I go and buy the dot 4 fluid which I think is the standard stuff. merckx Posted March 8, 2009 Share Posted March 8, 2009 (edited) Dot 5.1 brake fluid is compatible and can be mixed with dot 4. Dot 5.1 is a more expensive and a higher spec fluid with higher boiling points than dot 4 . If you had to buy some in the shops you would obviously go for the dot 4 as it's cheaper and it meets all the requirements for a Vauxhall Corsa braking system and most other road going cars.
