Dave F
Replaced a rear hose on my girlfriends Corsa so need to bleed the system. I have a fair amount of dot 5.1 fluid in the shed, do you think I could use this or should I go and buy the dot 4 fluid which I think is the standard stuff. Cheers Dave

Dave F
Must admit I wouldn't mix but have more than enough to do a complete change as its not been changed for a couple of years.
merckx
Dot 5.1 brake fluid is compatible and can be mixed with dot 4. Dot 5.1 is a more expensive and a higher spec fluid with higher boiling points than dot 4 . If you had to buy some in the shops you would obviously go for the dot 4 as it's cheaper and it meets all the requirements for a Vauxhall Corsa braking system and most other road going cars. But if you've already got some dot 5.1 it can be used. Edited March 8, 2009 by merckx (see edit history)
