RedM
The DVD release will be a 3hrs and 10 minutes long directors cut. There will eventually be an even longer version where the 'comic within a comic' The Tale of the Black Freighter will be properly edited into the film using the newstand! TOTBF will also be out on DVD next week. There will also be two extra endings for the main film. Both have been finished properly. They won't be rough cuts or the like and, Todd, you will get the ending you asked about! I can't wait.
Todd
and, Todd, you will get the ending you asked about! I can't wait. You realise if this is very successful then we could be looking at sequels
AndrewOW
TOTBF will also be out on DVD next week. Wassat? You realise if this is very successful then we could be looking at sequels Its always the downfall for any successful film franchise, unless there were more stories, but wasn't it just one novel and a load of comics, originally? Ewen
Any Daily Mail readers on here? The reporter Tookey gave it a huge turkey, said it was a film for pseudo intellectuals and sociopaths, also called 300 a gay-fest.... Yup, I'm one. Tookey is a funny witty guy, but I don't really pay much attention to his critiques. It's fascinating how peoples tastes overlap sometimes, whilst being poles apart otherwise. I enjoyed 300 immensely personally, more so the second time of watching. Watchmen sounds promising but I don't know much about the background. RedM
Wassat? Tales of the Black Freighter. As mentioned in my post. Hello...hello.... Its always the downfall for any successful film franchise, unless there were more stories, but wasn't it just one novel and a load of comics, originally? It was a 12 part comic book series which was then compiled into the one graphic novel. Funnily, you can now buy it for only £9.99! I only paid £9.95 for it back in '87 IIRC. Rob
That would never happen. What would they have to work with? Ian Fleming died quite a while ago now....
Pete
Funnily, you can now buy it for only £9.99! I only paid £9.95 for it back in '87 IIRC. I got a Dave Gibbons signed Absolute edition last year. The best way to read it as a big thick bound book and very high grade paper. Your review echoes my thoughts. I expect it'll get slated by the morons that don't understand it or can't concentrate for longer than 10 minutes on what they're watching. There were a number of scenes missing, but nothing that really would've added to the enjoyment of it. I found the sex scene to be surprisingly graphic and wished Doc Manhattan had wore pants more often.
Todd
Well that's me just back from watching it Everything was right about it, story couldn't have been transfered better and the slight tweaks worked quite well but on the whole... I was bored out my nut I've read the Graphic Novel I don't know how many times now and love it with a passion but the film just didn't do it for me, not sure why. Actually I think it has a lot to do with Doc Manhattans lack of briefs

RobSheffield
If a person went to see this but had not actually read the book or ever heard of anything to do with the book until about 3 weeks ago, would they 'get' it or do i need to read the book first? mkirby
i enjoyed it, it was a little long but unlike the other marvel comic films this was gritty and not full of silly people who could do silly things, well apart from the big naked blue guy LOL wonder if anne summers will be stocking the suit the girl was wearing, if so i now know what the wifes getting for mothers day!! Carl
The pertinent words there are Daily and Mail. Hell, they have problems with anyone who isn't white. A naked blue man with an impressively large todger is going to freak them out. I must say I have never read the novel or even heard of Watchmen untill it came to the cinema. Now you mention it, it is hard to get that image of his swinging blue bits out of your mind...lol. As for the film, I found it a little slow to get started but after about 30 minutes it was most enjoyable. As you say, quite intense narative, not one you can watch without your full attention.
