Mike
I've been asked by a mate to DJ at his wedding He has a similar taste in music to me, he wants a few 'party' tracks thrown in there... but he doesn't want it coming off sounding like a typical 'wedding' DJ. I did a bit of this at a previous wedding of a mate, hence the request... I have a shed load of music, so I can do it in terms of the tunes, but I need some help on which mixer would be best for the job - we're talking MP3's here (real DJ's recoil in horror ), but they're all ripped at 320Kbps. Basically I'll be using a couple of iPods I have a big PA system available (800watt) so that bit is covered One of the lads I work with suggested something fairly cheap like Alesis MultiMix 6FX... any advice on this please? I literally know nothing about mixing desks so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to look for. I think I'll probably be using it again so I don't mind spending a bit of money on one, if it's going to last.. and do the job. Any advice you could offer? ManwithSupra
If your looking at mixing from an Ipod (shudder) then i would reccomend this http://www.numark.com/idj2 This will only take 1 Ipod but then you dont need 2 if you put all the tunes you want onto 1. The thing is with this you can do "proper" mixing having pitch control and alike (not just stopping a tune and playing another or letting the other overrun out of beat sync - sounds terrible) Also has some other features such as loop etc.... not cheap though around £400-450.00 however in my mind if i HAD to use Ipod's for the music source then this is the one to use. Really you should get yourself a set of turntables and do it properly.... I still dont belive in using anything else
Mike
arrh, I see looping and the like.. I'm not sure I need that, but looks like a nice bit of kit. It's fair to say I'm not really looking to be Judge Jules or anything.. and this is literally 100 family members in a room.. soo.. 'proper' DJ skills aren't really the order of the day. Based on this assumption would the one I posted be OK do you think? I guess I'm wondering if the thing will fizz and make lots of embarrassing noises during post wedding dance moves?! Has anyone else been asked to do anything similar to this?

Mike
do yourself a nice CD at home and just play it if your not proper dj'ing mate The thing is... I think I'm going to get requests (Oops up side your head etc.), so I need to be able to put stuff in 'on the fly'. I just need something that will cover up the silence between tracks.. and if I can mix it a bit (I have some limited experience with 'proper' decks) then it's all good. lexsum
you might be as well playing from a laptop rather than buying special equipment. the ipod mixers include the software etc and are pricey but you can get a cheap pre-amp mixer (
