juanchan
...To follow on from the idea, Garbage men wont take bins over flowing now or bags next to bins. fill up the bag and give to Charity, problem solved My parents binmen leave any bags not in the bin too. They even go through the recycling bins and turf out anything that shouldn't be in there. Literally - they leave cardboard and magazines etc just flying round the driveway. penguin
there is a bit on the charity trust website which details accounts, percentage of funds etc etc.... personally, i always donate to international organisations like oxfam, msf etc... lot's of smaller "charities" are a waste of money in my opinion. stevie_b
Seeing as council binmen are tied up in red tape, and the charities already have the infrastructure to drop off and collect sacks of stuff, why don't the councils stop spending on refuse collection, and give the money to the charities instead. In return, the charities pick up our waste in the sacks they have. The charities can take it to the council tips. Tannhauser
If a charity is run like a business, it might be worth paying a decent salary to a team capable of distributing the funds in the best way. Would you rather 100 percent of the money was scattered by helicopter over a large area, or 50 percent was handed to the neediest? Exactly, and that argument can be extended to spending your donation on advertising. Let's say charity A spends 60p of your £1 donation on advertising on a good cause, whereas charity B only spends 15p in the pound. Charity A recruits 5000 donations of £1, of which £2000 goes to the good cause. Charity B, having carried out no advertising, only recruits 1000 donations of £1, passing on £850. You might feel resentful about how much of your donation Charity A has spent, but ultimately this allows them to donate more money for the good cause than charity B. Kranz
No, but we work with Lowland Search Dogs...... made almost slightly famous by my good friend Lou and her dog Brock who found Dr David Kelly..... if any of you remember that whole WMD fiasco??? Why would dogs need SAR??? They can normally fend for themselves. Its only us humans that decide they have to be caged up if they don't live in someone's house!
