RedM
I now run pretty much everyday. Lately I find that if I don't go running I get annoyed and slightly down. Is that normal? I know you can get (and I do) a runners high. Is this the flip-side?

grahamc
exercising helps the flow of oxygen and therefore energises you
RobSheffield
It is quite likely the increased time you spend on here if you don't go running that makes you feel annoyed and slightly down. Or its the fact that you are an annoying and slightly down person. Not sure
RedM
It kind of feels like an addiction though. Albeit one where the only negatives are new running shoes every few months and the occasional trip over a tree root just as a very attractive female runner runs by. Thorin
I find if I run for more than a few minutes I feel bad too. I think I have the opposite.
Mike
I would say yes... but I'm 'generally annoyed' most of the time so being constantly knackered takes the wind out of my sails a bit

Mike
So your saying your a grumpy bugger? I suspect my definition of grumpy/annoyed isn't in the realms of some fellow members On here I come off as fairly well balanced (most of the time!?) Carl_S
Like was said before it's possible that things in your life (like this forum) get you annoyed and slightly down. Look at other things in your life, what is contributing to your slightly negative mood, and try and find different ways of dealing with them. So often but not always is our reaction to things that needs to be changed rather than the things themselves, as life will always throw annoying and slightly depressing things at us. Physical exercise is proven to lift mood, albeit temporarily. I hear the sense of what you are saying about it feeling fake or like an addiction; but we are very much physical beings too and need that stimulus to help achieve overall health and wellbeing. I feel behind your question is something like: "Is it ok to be addicted to a healthy thing like running?".

penguin
yes.... happens to me a lot, especially during my "week" off (6 weeks on, one week off).. keep it up though mate, nothing keeps you happy like the buzz you get from exercise
juanchan
Physical exercise is proven to lift mood, albeit temporarily. I've recently started going the gym / swimming etc regularly and I've never felt better, even when I know I would normally be feeling down and depressed. I would argue that it's not just a "temporary" thing.

And less stress results in generally having more energy and motivation to do things like washing up, which goes down well with the gf
