Chris Wilson
I have put a bid on a new race transporter, but it's a hell of a lot bigger than my current 7.5 tonner. The owners going to have a go at getting it through the current gates, but I feel it'll either be a none starter, or such hassle that it's going to be a nightmare. If I move the gateposts and widen the gates from their current 12 foot width, to something like 20 foot I'll need to either try and match the tarmac, or contrast it. Contrast sounds a better option, leaving the existing entry undisturbed, and I originally thought cobbles (probably because the wife mumbled something like "oh cobblers" when I took her to see this leviathan....). Then I priced them up Imprinted concrete seems a cheaper, no maintenance option, but all I seem to recall is it's done with rolling moulded rubber mats on the semi set material to imprint it with a pattern (imitation cobbles in this case). Has anyone tried a DIY job using this? I am used to fairly big concrete rafts, and these won't be that big anyway, it's just imprinting them I know nowt about. Can you hire the mats and stuff? JamieP, is this something you have used? Thanks.

Chris Wilson
Thanks Block paviors are OUT, but thanks for the idea. We have them all along the front of the house, and some round the back, they are a total PITA Wouldn't have more of them as a gift, and I doubt an 18 tonner will appeal to them much either! They can look lovely, but for the hammer the drive gets here they are not really suitable, plus they are high maintenance. Luckily the original asphalt was done to a standard where an HGV doesn't bother it.
Havard
We have had the imprinted stuff Chris and to be honest I probably wouldn't have it done again..... They are quite high maintenance (mine has been re-sealed three times in 18 months as the coating keeps coming off and leaves dull patches. We are also seeing a few hairline cracks appearing now..!! Get some pikeys to tarmac it.... H.
Rob
Chris, if you're replacing grass with concrete, you might fall foul of this whole planning thing with impermeable drives now. Make sure the new bits drain back onto your land and not onto the road.
Chris Wilson
It'll only be a small area, per se, I'll put some photos up, maybe someone will have a better idea, but matching it in Tarmac doesn't appeal. Imprinted doesn't have to be sealed, bare coloured concrete will be fine for this. Not looking for 100% cobbled look.just something a bit nicer than plain concrete. Cheers, good point.
