colsoop Posted February 28, 2009 Share Posted February 28, 2009 Its a bit expensive, i assume you were planning to run it off a drill ? If so 6" mops would probably work it a bit hard. Something like a 4" or maybe smaller mop would be better. You might be able to get away with just using soft mops depending on condition of the wheel. Big Ian Posted February 28, 2009 Author Share Posted February 28, 2009 yeah, i was going to use a drill, my rim's are not to bad .. since i removed the clear coat ive been cleaning them with fine wire wool and autosol and they clean up well, just some areas still have light stain's/water mark's and to help add to the overall finish before i re-clear them i thought one of these kit's might help and save a little time? ive seen 4" kit's for sale to thank's Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

jim Posted February 28, 2009 Share Posted February 28, 2009 After a lot of scotching/sanding/wetsand I used one of the kits from the polishing shop that Col linked to, it was my first time doing anything like that and it was really easy to use and my rims came up well considering how they were when I started. jim Posted March 1, 2009 Share Posted March 1, 2009 Just have a couple mate, but they're not the best quality and don't really show just how bad they were. I had to tape my fingers up by the time I got to the last one because I'd blisters on the tips of all of them. I've yet to find something that does a good job of sealing them though, I have to wetsand them with a very fine grit maybe every three months (they're hard to keep in the winter) and top them up with another hand polish with belgom alu. They're certainly not to everyone's tastes but I like them, although I've been thinking recently about painting my old ones black to see how it looks for a change, and if that doesn't work out then maybe sell both and put the money to some five spokes. Calico g and blue compound. It is hard to say for sure without seeing them in the flesh so always start with the least abrasive first and work from there. Don't move on to the next stage of polishing until the previous marks are gone. So start with the white stich mop and the sovereign green and see if that shifts the marks, if not go backwards to the colour mop. Don't mix compounds on the same mop. Attach the mop to the pigtail and get it running then loosely hold the compound to the mop for a couple of seconds, this will aplly some compound. Do this little and often. After you are happy with the finish clean the wheels with soap and water and a soft cloth trying not to add more scratches to the wheels. Dry then move on to the next stage and repeat. Wear eye protection and a mask and maybe somethign for your ears. I would also pop on some gloves as friction burns from those mops scar for life !
