Dave_SZ-R Posted February 26, 2009 Share Posted February 26, 2009 Hey guys, So Ive done my research on the classic power steering 'whine'. Mine sounds like a supercharger when turning close to full lock shortly after start up. Came out of work the other night and turned hard right (into the petrol station obviously) and managed to get a rather loud whine from it. Only thing is, the sound remained (while turning the wheel) for a couple of minutes after this. Stopped the car and drove off a couple of minutes later, and the sound was gone. As far as I know, the whining sound only occurs in the first few minutes of 'cold' driving. Is my first port of call to do the old lock-to-lock turns for a bit to bleed the system, or does this sound worse? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

L18msy Posted February 27, 2009 Share Posted February 27, 2009 Mine did this, ended up the fluid was down just a tiny amount. Check the level on the dipstick on the cap. The noise mine made you would of thought it was empty, only a small amount of power steering fluid was needed, then there was no more noise!
