Guest spinthepilot
Ok, a head scratcher ( to me ), but maybe not to you... Above about 68/70mph on any road inc smooth motorway, feeling a periodic vibation through the wheel. 3 secs or so of vibration then 5 secs of 'ordinary' handling then another 3 secs of vib and so on etc etc. Gets slightly more intense with inc in speed and nothing evident below this speed. Car hasn't been in any accidents, isn't bent, new tyres, balanced nicely, tracking strainght and no pull ( v v slight wheel offset left ) and 30K miles. J spec. Any clues? Thanks in advance. Animal
It's possibly a wheel out of balance. I had the same issue last year, I'd feel a vibration through the steering wheel between 70 & 90 mph. It stopped when I got new tyres fitted a few months later. Chris Wilson
Tyre deformation or wheel balance. get the wheels off the car, the tyres inspected by an expert, and the balance checked on a machine that's not *uggered, which is a rarity these days. Guest spinthepilot
Thanks guys, already been there - done that, and balance is perfect (on a good machine!). Tyres - rear brand new, front a few 1000K driven, no deformation evident at all.... I would have thought that if a wheel had been out, the vibration would be there all the time, not 3 secs bad/5 secs good. Sorry if I mislead, by periodic I meant the vibration cycles on and off following a pattern and not that it is occasionally happening! Mike
I had this years back when driving back from Uni with my dad in his (then) Carlton - it vibrated just at a certain speed - not above that speed or below. We got near to the A66 (coming back from Preston to Middlesbrough) and the tyre blew out... my first and only blow out at age 18!? I'd be better safe than sorry and replace it if I were you.
