michael
I'm not being racist but... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7907262.stm?lss EastEnders is to air the first episode featuring an entirely black cast for the first time in its 23-year history In my view making a fuss about this being "different" is what's wrong with the world today, had I been unfortunate enough to watch tonight without being aware of the landmark I would have thought "this is a boring episode, where is Dot?" not "Ooo look at all the black people". Did people make a fuss of the Cosby Show all those years ago? Maybe...
AndrewOW
Agreed. I read that this morning too, and thought why do they need to mention it. Even though I never watch them, ever at all, ever, but my girlfriend does; how come there aren't any 'black' people in any of the Aussie soaps? Do they not exist out there, or something?! benkei
Just something to get the publics interest in an attempt to boost ratings?
Charlotte
Never mind racist, it's frackin soooo dull lately! I hate the way they keep 'focusing' on one family where nothing happens for a whole episode.
SupraStar 3000
long gone are the days of 'Till Death Us Do Part' and Alf Garnett.
Alex
I long for the day Eastenders is 100% black. As in, they switch off the lights and leave the set in darkness, for good.
Mike
Whatever happened to 'A Different World' with Dwayne Wayne and the gorgeous Lisa Bonet? That's what I'd like to know
DAT Inter
Is it not more racist not to include white people?
ilicos
It is the typical, 'Let's show we are all for racial equality' card. I don't see why this is so important. At the end of the day I am not a native 'British' person. I am of Greek-Cypriot origin and get my fair share of prejudice from time to time, especially since the influx of asylum seekers etc. But to continuously force-feed racial equality to us, and, for example as in the case of my younger cousin's school, cancel Christmas - Well this is just madness!!! No other country in the world would give up its main religious holiday in order to not offend other religions, and then chose for the other religions festivities to be celebrated instead. Why can it not be so that every religion or race gets to celebrate their holidays and religious events together so that rather than creating animosity, harmony and mutual understanding can be created. I don't see this as a landmark at all!! What about the Desmonds, or as you have mentioned the Cosby Show? By making a big deal of it, I feel that more boundaries are put up. AndrewOW
Some good points there, for a foreigner. I used to like Desmond's. It wasn't a bad comedy at all IMO.
ilicos
Some good points there, for a foreigner. Cheers. But were you just being racist???
Charlotte
What about the Desmonds I was just about to say that, before I saw your post. Who actually cares?!
jamesmark
Never mind racist, it's frackin soooo dull lately! I hate the way they keep 'focusing' on one family where nothing happens for a whole episode. Not that I watch or anything , but also the fact if a character leaves most of the time they get killed off. I welcome the day someone scoopes the lottery and buggers off to the sun. Another vote for 'Desmonds'. Bring back Pork Pie.
Charlotte
Not that I watch or anything , but also the fact if a character leaves most of the time they get killed off. Or that when you think the worst most ugliest person in it is dead....he comes back again?!
AndrewOW
Or that when you think the worst most ugliest person in it is dead....he comes back again?! Not that I watch it or anything, but wasn't that just stupid? Then again, it should just be cancelled, as Alex has already suggested! Charlotte
Not that I watch it or anything, but wasn't that just stupid? Yeah, absolutely pathetic. The worst one was Danielle is she/isn't she going to tell Ronnie about being her daughter...how long has that gone on for?!!
Guest Budz86
I agree, by making a point out of the fact they are only showing one family who happens to be black they are creating a further divide. If it had never been brought up no one would have even picked up on the fact that there were no white cast members on tonights episode. And Desmond's was brilliant! They replayed them on sky not that long ago. Edit: I think tonight could be the 'Barak Obama Commemorative Celebratory Episode'
AndrewOW
Yeah, absolutely pathetic. The worst one was Danielle is she/isn't she going to tell Ronnie about being her daughter...how long has that gone on for?!! Now not that I watch it or anything, but that storyline is the one of the most ridiculous of recent times IMO. She has had all the chances in the world to tell her, but hasn't. And for that reason, I'm out! Well, that's one of the reasons why I can't watch soaps, because they wind me up so much! Grrrr
jamesmark
Yeah, absolutely pathetic. The worst one was Danielle is she/isn't she going to tell Ronnie about being her daughter...how long has that gone on for?!! That is if she tell her at all! As she snuffs it soon. AndrewOW
Spoiler Really? How pathetic! That is if she tell her at all! As she snuffs it soon. EDIT: Nope it doesn't work, yet.

AndrewOW
Roll on the day that Mrs Masood (sp) and Ian Beale have an affair. Who? Luckily I have no idea who you're on about, as I never watch the programme.
