720p Xbox to new telly??

Hi,

Thought I'd ask on here as a lot of bods seem clued up on telly's. I have moved my xbox into my extension and have bought a Toshiba 37" LCD. The TV is HD Ready 720p but when I put my xbox into 720p mode then eveything on the screen goes a wee bit smaller and when playing the games, everything looks like it's been made thinner.....:(

If I put it back to 480p then everything is ok but I want to use the TV to it's full potential. In 480p the xbox gives me options for "normal" or "widescreen" operation. It looks correct in "Normal" but a bit wierd in "Widescreen".

When I change to 720p it will only allow me to use "widescreen" and the picture doesn't look quite right again..!! On the TV it will only allow me to play in "widescreen" or "4:3" and then it just gets really silly!!

I am connected via the 5 cables on the standard AV/HD cable that comes with the xbox. What I want to know is, do you have to make your TV aware that you are using 720p and should I just buy a HDMI cable and hope that it sorts the picture out??

I have a problem sort of similar however when i turn my xbox settings to run 720p and flick the VGA cable over to HDTV the screen goes blank until i flick the switch back over however i can still hear the home screen even though the screen is blank??!!

Any suggestions or should i just buy and HDMI cable and be done with it??

Just seems abit stupid how they have a switch to turn it to HD through the VGA cable and it doesnt work and they dont supply an HDMI cable with it

i had a bit of a "WTF" moment when i went from 1080p to 720p when i moved my xbox to the bedroom. But after i changed the setting in the settings for HD on the xbox it was all fine and im useing the component cable.

I can only imagine its just a setting somewhere that doesnt match up with the xbox correctly

Well, went to get a HDMI cable today.....:)

Thge resolution is absolutely fantastic but the shape of the screen isn't right for me. I have played COD for 7 months in 480P mode and loved it. The picture is now crystal clear but all thye streets now look like alleyways.......

I think I'll just go back to 480p...FFS!!
