I was warned off by Stevieboy on here (Porsche technician)... He said that the 3.4 engines were prone to failures and expensive ones at that. He reckoned that the only "good" engines were the ones in the TT or the GT3 as they were a different design..!! H.

Failure to look back at this information is a bit of a poke in the eye for those who have taken the time to post it. Or do you mean I'm boring? If I bore you then you have options: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/profile.php?do=addlist&userlist=ignore&u=695 or: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=177200 Stick a few grand in and you'll won't have to put up with my dull replies. Whoops, to be honest, I cant recall ever seeing a thread myself, must of missed them and I didnt consider looking for such a thread. If it is Supra related I generally do use the search, just didn't realise this topic had been discussed so many times before.. Me Bad.... If it is Supra related I generally do use the search, just didn't realise this topic had been discussed so many times before.. Me Bad.... Strange, I just went to create a thread with an identical subject to this one and the auto search feature brought up a number of previous threads. "Porsche 911 (996) advice.." "Thoughts Porsche 996 ??" ...being two of them. Not as big a deal as I'm making it out to be by any means but the info is here already and there are lots of dedicated sites with even more info on. JamesG
I quite like the 996 but I'm scared away by the running costs. Mind you there's a few bargain 996 Turbos on Pistonheads. How about stretching to one of those http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/889316.htm

hogmaw
Auto though, isn't it? Hasn't stopped 100s of manual-seeking Supra owners being happy with their auto Supras... not sure how an auto porsche would compare to an auto Supra? Guest GirlRacer!
I did a few laps in a 996 at a track day a while back... pretty good fun but not as amazing as I was expecting. Just felt a bit tame. Although I guess it probably didn't help that I'd just got out of a very tail-happy Ferrari 360! Have you test-driven one yet?
