Supragal
Grr I'm rubbish at this. But whipping stuff would be good for your arms! Excellent - definitely need to see pics - is it a birthday thing? yeah it's someones birthday, I'm only doing the logo though so it won't be that exciting!! You're not rubbish, I think it's just a stupid situation where most things require the use of feet!!!

caseys
If you want a fun easy way of building arm/grip strength buy yourself an NSD Powerball. They're quite good fun and addictive Otherwise I'd agree, pull ups, press ups, ab work and general core work. I'm kinda slim on ideas of home based exercise which you can do without pressuring your leg apart from the others that have already been suggested. Charlotte
yeah it's someones birthday, I'm only doing the logo though so it won't be that exciting!! You're not rubbish, I think it's just a stupid situation where most things require the use of feet!!! Maybe it's just your body's way of saying you need to take it easy for a while. You've been ill quite a lot and you probably need to just have a bit of a chill out and rest up. You still eat healthily so you should be ok. Supragal
So what did you do to it, as you still haven't let on! I actually don't know. I assume I did it running but there was no crippling moment of injury, just got up in the morning and pretty much fell down again. FAIL. peter richards
Yeah I wonder if I can borrow one. Wouldn't know what to do with it though!! the reebok one i have came with a set of excerises , i needed one after i injured my spine a few years ago , i think youll still use it after your foot is better , worth the outlay rosie . my exercises were given by the physio so were limited as the injury was quite bad ,but enabled me to recover over time , my wife uses it all the time
AndrewOW
I actually don't know. I assume I did it running but there was no crippling moment of injury, just got up in the morning and pretty much fell down again. FAIL. Have you had it X-rayed yet? It is such a complex area, that it could be absolutely anything. I think it could be a torn ligament, but hairline fractures are common too. You must rest it!! I recommend one of those big balls though, and view the accompanying dvd, as it really is a great work out IMO. It also doubles as an extra piece of seating too, so sit on at your desk, and exercise gently all day.
Al Massey
You can do squats on an injured foot! Ask any decent physio or rehab intructor I once Fecked my ankle and was doing many squats as directed by a physio and my rehab instructor (PTI in the forces) and never had a problem And i also ripped my ACL whilst in Iraq and im still doing squats They improve movement and help bulid up damaged muscles
Ark
If I showed you what I ate (yes I write it down every day) you'd laugh. I literally can't eat any less and not be ill. Are you sure about that? I saw the size of the steak you ordered at the Epic Fail a couple of months ago nom nom nom Serious note, some gyms have sports injury clinics, physio, that kind of thing. Probably wise to talk to them.

Axle
Just to come back to an earlier point (as I am being asked through PM and would rather make the point clear for those who don’t know). Being in the weight lifting game since I was a mere teeny-bop, I have learnt a thing or two about the way peoples body react to certain methods/techniques, changes in diet, volume etc etc.. I have seen too many people injured and even had their training life ruined through bad or just misinformed advice in the past. So it is a pet hate of mine in this game when someone appears to think they know what they are talking about when apparently they don't. That's more for toning anyway. What about swimming? There is no shame in not knowing what you are talking about on a specific subject, so try not to get so defensive. Charlotte from your quote above, it suggests that you think 'toning' is something other then losing weight - As you suggest swimming as an alternative, which would help one loose or maintain weight. The word 'toning' has been redefined over the years to such a degree that many people think toning and lifting weights are two different things. How many times have you known of someone to want to go to the gym and for arguments sake do 15 reps on a light weight for x amount of sets to 'tone' up? Shock horror – The idea of ‘toning’ the muscles as most know it, is a myth. The truth is, our muscles are already a genetically defined shape. You cannot shape your muscles to any further degree, other then making them larger (or smaller) and stronger (or weaker). If i had a penny every time someone suggested that they were going to go to the gym to lift some weights to 'tone' up - I would be retired by now. You can do squats on an injured foot! Yes but why the urgency to? Squatting is not an unknown in rehab programmes, however the problem with squatting on an injured foot (without knowing the extent of injury), is causing further injury by rotation of the foot due to discomfort, which can then lead to knee injury – Unless specified, there is no need for someone to cause further risk by doing squatting on an injured foot unless overseen by a specialist or experienced themselves. Stratty
Well done Axle... I to have been in the weight-lifting game for an extremely long time and the term 'toning' really gets on my nerves. Supragal - look up bodyweight exercises on the net and this will give you an idea of what you can do whilst injured.
ozz
Maybe google isometric exercises, I did that years ago when I didn't have any weights, seemed pretty good. Or you could borrow Axle's soap box and do isometics with that. (no offence, joke!).

ilicos
It sounds like you are pretty fit anyway if you have been training regularly and following a nutritious and carb, protein, fibre balanced diet. Given this I would say that you simply need to adopt certain exercises that will keep your muscles active to keep them assisting your body to burn fat and keep your metabolism high and ultimately avoid muscle wasteage. I was extremely fit before I had a motorcycle accident which resulted in a severe ankle injury. I had to change my exercise plan and adopted this for a while. Legs: As m45sey said, you can do squats on an injured foot. The best and safest way to do this is by placing a swiss (exercise) ball on your lower back/ upper buttocks and placing your feet at hip to shoulder width apart about one-two feet in front of you so that your shins are at 90 degrees to the floor and your quads are parallel to the floor at the end position. Core/Stomach: I would suggest the 'plank'. This is where you are in the push up position wityh your forearms flat on the floor palms down and you contract your abs and glutes(buttocks) and hold for a minute at a time whilst breathing normally. Sit ups Leg raises but holding your pose on the up and the down without letting your feet touch the floor. Arms: Triceps - Dips: Get two sturdy chairs and place them apart enough to place your legs on on and hands on the other. Then dip your body with your arms until your upper arm is nearly parallel to the floor. Biceps: Two large bottles of water un each arm and curl from your hips to your shoulders. Back: bend your knees slightly, and bend your back so that it is leaning towards the floor between 45 degrees and parallel and take the bottles of water and starting from in front of you with your arms slightly bent, bring them up to your sides just below the arm pits. You can also do this as a fly which starts the same way just expand your arms as though they are wings till they are level with your torso. Chest: Push ups. I hope this helps but in all honesty, I would seek medical advice just in case it is something more serious.
