Holden1989
Well, i would like to admit that i have a ford as my only car I get slated for it all the time, but i dont care, because im a student, its cheap to run, and the roof comes of, so what if others dont like it I used to be a moderator on the ffoc (ford focus owners club) and near enough all focus's have problems (build problems, leaky boots, footwells etc), we used to have the ST3 when it came out and it was a brilliant car, it handled fine, lets face it, we were hardly doing track days in it constantly As for the new shaped fords, personally i think they look crap but then again i thought the new BMW's looked rubbish, i guess the new shaped cars are growing on people £24k? Theres alot nicer cars out there, and i agree that a supra (with an ABLE driver) would proberly abliterate one on bends (from experience) But hey, what do i know, im a girl who drives a Ford right

Steve A
how much would a stock TT have cost new? and how would that fair against the RS as thats about only like for like comparison. A tuned supra with 15k spent on engine mods should really eb compared to the high end cossies out there in terms of ability and value for money. but i dont mind i like them both

Supra-Brett
wow, some differing comments on this one. Some say supe is better at handling some say its worse. I have no doubt that those who say that the handling of the supe is better, have recently (or the previous owner has) spent a lot of money renewing the suspension for new toyota items, or uprated aftermarket. 15Year old supra suspension is poor, if its on its way out its dangerous, simple as that. The new focus will be good, handling will be good also, and i bet that round a track it will beat a std supe thats been kept in good condition. At the end of the day its not far off the supe in terms of power out of the box, its got newer technology, will be more comfortable and has better mpg (possibly). Against a bpu supe no way, it will get trashed (in a straight line) and possibly on bends if the supes suspension is good. BUT spend 25K on a focus, no way. Depreciation will be a nightmare (i would imagine) AND its a ford. If servicing is anything like previous RS fords it will be extortionate. As with other fords Fix Or Repair Daily With 25K i would buy a PROPER 2nd hand RWD or 4WD car such as a 350/370Z, skyline or facelift modified well kept supe, and have some change left over for servicing, or i may ebe sensible and get a 335D or 535D BMW. Gaz6002
Some people I know have just taken a new FRS for a test drive, and report understeer despite the 'clever' chassis mods. Another point: A guy from Ford PR told me they expect this car to lap the 'Ring faster than the R26.R whilst using road tyres, which are a long way from the R888s the R26.R used. No plastic windows, roll cage or titanium exhaust either. We had the good fortune to compare and contrast both cars, along with a huge range of fast hatches, at Silverstone a few weeks back. I have to say, I'd rather have the new FRS than an Escort Cosworth. That doesn't mean they're getting my £25k though. I've got other plans for that. SimonT
Saw it on fifth gear and thought it looked quite nice apart from the bogey green colour and quite liked the sound of the engine too! Overall i liked it but just not for £25,000! Im ready for any abuse to be thrown at me after my liking of the car
Bobbeh
I dont care if its quicker or as quick, ultimately its a bloody ford focus, the car has no sleek lines or super car looks.. I just wouldn't look at it in the same way and go 'wow, thats nice'... more like 'meh'.

michael
supra and other similar cars were designed to be a proper car and nothing else... ...nearly 20 years ago. It's not a fair comparison at all, if Toyota released an updated Supra now it would be 3 times as expensive as the Focus, it's in another league and aimed at a different market. Just because we can pick them up for peanuts doesn't mean they are ripe for comparison with cheaper sports cars today. When it was released the Supra was often compared to the BMW M3, if you compare the Focus RS to the latest M3 you get some idea of the price, performance and technology void that people are comparing. If you had £25k and wanted a brand new "fun" car with a warranty, no MOT to worry about for a few years and enough practicality to haul the family and shopping around when required what would you go for? Ford aren't aiming the Focus RS at the sort of people who want to buy cars like the Supra, they are taking on things like the Lancer, Impreza, Golf R32. I doubt Porsche Cayman sales will suffer as a result of the RS going to market. Apples and oranges ultimately but as much we all like the Supra it's not the greatest car ever made... but then neither is the Focus RS. QUOTE] 25k for a new car, £400 a year on road tax,no MOT for atleast what 3-4 years but when it does come to MOT time for the focus i bet it will be near £2000, i dont know about you mate but i would pick the supra any day. michael
i dont know about you mate but i would pick the supra any day. The Supra isn't a brand new car. I know it's hard to grasp but a lot of people like to buy new cars, you may have seen those garages full of the things? Often these people have a budget of £25,000... they don't want an old Japanese sportscar, they want a new car for around £25k that's still fun to drive but reliable and fairly practical to boot. Obviously the target audience for cars of this type isn't a Toyota Supra owners club but try to jump outside of your blinkers for a moment and consider that some people might not want an old Toyota with an image problem.
